So I’m going to try and summarise why the ticket office closures are a problem for disabled people. Since Covid, there’s been a major push not to use cash. So of course the money going to a ticket office is going to be less.
Over the past two years, disabled people have been strongly encouraged to book assistance through an app. The strong insinuation being of we do that our assistance will be ‘guaranteed’ but am from personal experience it doesn’t always work.
I’m still considering taking legal action over my last ‘fail’ where a member of the public pulled me on to the train. I’d I hadn’t got that one the next was an hour behind.
The app is the web form and while quicker than the phone it still requires people to actually do the booking. I receive several emails every time I book. I’m upset that disabled people who highlight the failure of the system are told they’re stopping disabled people travelling
It’s the system failure that stops people travelling. Back to TUAG. If stations are de staffed we will lose the right to get on a train as non disabled people are able to do. No spontaneous travel. Notice to the HoL please don’t table legislation I might want to do on Thursdays
Every Govt has allowed derogations that have stopped level boarding. Lack of investment and priority has caused this
There are loads of tickets machines I find it extremely hard to use. I can’t see the screens. I can’t see the card reader and when to put my pin in.

Happy Father’s Day.When I went to school in the 1970’s and 80’s wheechair users didn’t have a right to mainstream education. I was meant to be in ‘special’ education where if I was lucky I could sit a few CSE’s. Certainly not sciences. My Dad wrote the most amazing letters)
And after about a year arguing I got to mainstream school. I had to do a shed load of tests along the way seeing various professionals. it was the only school in south Glamorgan at the time that was allowed to accept wheelchair users. Not that close to where I lived
So I didn’t get to see friends outside school and missed out on lots of simple things. But I would take education over that. There are lots of children who don’t have that for many reasons and my reasons weren’t horrible ones.
