An incredibly important story from HuffPost: the current pseudo-philosophy of Peter Thiel's Silicon Valley set (not to mention the NYT and WaPo) is just warmed-over white nationalism from the Richard Spencer era. And Thiel helped many of those extremists get started. 1/
@letsgomathias's story mentions that Richard Hanania (under the pseudonym) "Richard Hoste" wrote for Richard Spencer's Taki's Magazine and VDARE. And so did Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes. The Proud Boys were announced in the pages of Taki's Mag in Sept. 2016. 2/

White supremacist Richard Spencer, editor of Taki's Mag who published Hanania and McInnes, was himself published in Russia in Matt Taibbi's "The eXile" magazine. Spencer married a glamorous Russian, too. 3/
At the 2016 RNC, just before the Proud Boys were announced, Peter Thiel's protege / employee Jeff Giesea arranged two events that birthed the alt-right: a "Gays for Trump" party and a dinner for Richard Spencer and other white nationalists. Jack Posobiec got his start here. 4/ Image

Fascism isn't a bottom-up movement. It needs support from the top. Universities that hold their noses and take the money. State governments with an agenda. Billionaires paying the bills. Media who swear they're just "providing balance". Call them on it. 8/

#SeditionHunters knew early on that Dykes / #GooseInGrey was important. He moved with purpose all day: with the core group who moved around the Capitol to breach on the East; pushing through police in at the Columbus doors, then back West to the tunnel. 3/

If you're reading the WaPo article about former US Atty for DC Michael Sherwin and FBI WFO head Steve D'Antuono slow-walking the Jan 6 investigation: 1) don't focus on Trump, and 2) the key word is FORMER. Both are gone. Look who's in charge now. 1/

Sherwin was eased out of DOJ in March 2021. FBI's D'Antuono, vilified by both hard-core MAGA and left-wing pundits, abruptly announced his retirement on Dec. 2, 2022. He was under fire both for resisting the search of Mar-a-Lago - and for searching it. FBI WFO had no leader...2/ Image

For those worried over Trump's court date in Miami - NO it will not be like Jan 6. The Jan 6 crowd was built with months of social media, pre-rallies, free buses...and even so the E Capitol crowd was this thin. People had to be goaded to walk around the building. We are lazy. 1/ Image
The lesson of Jan 6 is not that inciting a mob is easy. It is that getting people to travel is hard. Watch the Stop the Steal rallies in Nov-Dec. People were fired up, but other than the big DC events, the rallies are SMALL. A crowd of 100 was normal. 2/
MAGA is just not that compelling. The Women's March in DC was 50x as big as Jan 6. To grasp what all the Jan 6 efforts produced, think: Division II football stadium. Of course stochastic terrorism is still a danger; one person with a gun is lethal. But it won't be a mob. 3/ Image

Yesterday Kevin McCarthy let "reporters" Julie Kelly & John Solomon see the Jan 6 footage that Capitol Police held as sensitive. Kelly's only discovery: watching video is "exceedingly laborious"! So instead they released ... the Congressional escape routes USCP wanted hidden. 1/ Image
Julie Kelly couldn't find anything exculpatory in the J6 video - which we all knew. The only thing that video will show is more evidence of coordination, IF you're careful and patient. So Kelly went for the only way she could make a splash - by endangering elected officials. 2/ Image
John Solomon, Kelly's "reporting" partner, has his own video scandal. The day the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago, Solomon broke the news, tried to spin. Two weeks later he & Kash Patel were abruptly made reps with access to docs - just before DOJ subpoenaed the security footage. 3/ Image
