I have no problem with detransitioned trans people who have changed their mind on the journey for personal reasons. I do take issue to those who attempt to weaponise their experience in order to hurt other trans people as a kind of revenge for their own mistakes. 1/
In the UK, transitioning takes a LONG time, often a great deal of money, and the process is explained time and again... as are the consequences. It's a long series of consultations, hesitant steps forward and many, MANY chances to back out. 2/
Professional gender counsellors are there to help people towards the destination that is best for the individual, whether to transition or not. They do not rush, force or fast-track anybody. Then of course there's the age limits: Puberty blockers to under 16s occasionally.. 3/
...hormones only to 16 years and above, and surgery only for over 18s - adulthood. MANY chances to back out. But some still press on and, after surgery, either regret their decision or feel societal pressure too great to continue. 4/
Less than 3% of trans people detransition. That's a tiny percentage of the 0.5% of the UK population who declare themselves trans. Taking to the press or the courts to try and stop the VAST majority of happy, satisfied people achieving their goals is not only cruel... 5/
... it's dishonest, mendacious and unfair. So are the many lies told by some detransitioners about their experience being "rushed" and "bullied". The stop button was always available, at many points along the road. 6/
