For the past 2-3 days district Madurai, Cuddalore, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai are getting thunderstorms and today too thunderstorm are expected across North TN, South TN and Delta belt and even Chennai will get rains.
On 10th and 11th August - These thunderstorms will be on widespread areas. Chennai and KTC belt too will join the party this time. So next two days, do carry your raincoat or umbrella with you in evenings and night.
This august has been on of the hottest and record breaking one particularly in South TN Madurai, Palayamkottai, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi all sizzled breaking their all time records.
For the holiday season - South India hills are clear of rains, hence Munnar, Valparai, Kodagu, Wayanad, Idukki, Yercaud, Ooty, Kodai all are free of any major rains.

Depression crossed right over Chennai at around 4.30 to 5.30 pm and now lies Kancheepuram - Ranipet district as per Satellite fix, Heavy rains are seen over North Interior TN districts
Widespread rains are seen in Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Tiruvallur Western areas, Chittor and even parts of Krishnagiri has got rains. This will continue throughout the night too in Vellore and surrounding districts.
Very heavy rains are expected to continue in Vellore, Ranipet districts in the coming hours. In a West - North West moving systems, always give rains well in interiors too.
Last band of clouds giving heavy farewell rains from the Depression. Should last for another hour or so.
Meanwhile the lakes inflows and outflows are managed with cushion to the flood.

Good morning all, we can see the clouds have now cleared Karaikkal - nagai belt and shifts to Cuddalore -Chennai belt.
The Depression is still far away but once it takes W-NW movement, the meaty western bands will batter Cuddalore - Chennai - Sriharikota belt.
The picture enclosed will give you all an idea. Rains in Chennai will start shortly from ECR, Siruseri side first and then cover city, as one outer band is pushed close to Chennai.

The last time, February got massive rains was in year 2002. Delta got massive rains and Floods in February 2002. While Cuddalore got massive rains in February 2000.
