To Ivante - the young man who stopped me at the grocery store working 2 jobs with a 1 year old who asked for advice on how to get ahead - I gave you a short answer because I was in a rush and it ate at me. So if you follow me here, maybe you’ll read this.

What you’re going… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
@AlexHormozi Dope advice. I'll add in a little advice born from my own experiences grinding it out:

1. It's going to be tough selling something you have no passion or knowledge about, so find something you care about to sell.
@AlexHormozi 2. Sales as a skill is a stack of other skills.

People skills (charisma, charm, connection), product knowledge, social sciences, psychology and understanding what makes people tick, pain points, motivators, etc. are all critical to sales success.

Here's a few books on these:

Best life advice my father gave me:

1) Leave it better than you found it.

2) God gave you the power to ignore, use it.

3) It’s better to be envied than pitied.

4) You’ve been through worse than anything they can do to you.

5) Whatever you do, be the best. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
6) Try harder than everyone else.

7) Be proud of your name.
8) They can never take your education.

9) You can always get better.

There was a time I felt very wronged earlier in my life. White hot anger. Didn’t sleep for two days anger. Not tossing and turning. Pacing in a room angry.

The quote that got me to settle down was this:

“To understand is to forgive.” - Pascal

Here’s what I did next… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
I wrote a letter to me from the person who I felt had wronged me.

I tried to write his side of the story.

Truly. I wrote it like an essay.

His childhood. His parents. High school. Upbringing. The times I’d wronged him. Etc.
And an interesting thing happened.

As my focus shifted out of myself towards this other humans experience I began to understand why he was the way he was.

And I learned one of the most important lessons of my life:

You cannot be both hate and truly understand another person.

My greatest learning of my first decade in business: to endure hardship for a longer period of time before demanding a reward.

Nothing great happens on the first try.

It’s the 100th iteration that makes you dangerous and the ability to see out 2-99 to get there.
It’s what these guys who launch a new product/program/business every 6 months have yet to learn. They keep repeating the level until they beat the boss. The fortune is in the 43rd version of your first product. Not your 43rd new product.
I’ve made better work (now vs 10 years ago) not because I’ve gotten any smarter, I’ve just increased the delay with which I can wait before getting something back.

In that way it’s more of a trait than a skill.
