with this weapon, and became famous as the greatest warrior ever. He only fought battles because he was committed to annihilating injustice. The boy was angry, and when someone hugely blessed and with immense capabilities becomes angry, such things can happen. Wherever he thought there is injustice, he started killing.

Margazhi starts from today!
During our Christmas holidays, I would ask my grandmother "Why are you waking us up at 4 am, to bath & go to Perumal Temple?"
She would say "To have Pongal prasadam!" That was enough for us! But today I know the significance of waking up early during this month and the importance of Margazhi period.

Effect the Margazhi month on the human system.
The Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec 16 - Jan 14) coincides with Earth's closest point to the Sun. Although it should be the hottest month, the Northern Hemisphere faces away, making it the coolest. The Sun's gravity has its strongest pull, affecting the human system, particularly the base or root energy.

Margazhi is a time to bring balance and stability to the system. There are practices in the yogic system which have been transmitted into the culture in many different ways. This is a time when men will do what generally women are supposed to do, and vice versa. In Tamil Nadu, men will go on Nagarasankeertan; they will sing and practice devotion – which are largely considered feminine.

Why..? I have always wondered, should a common man use all his savings to make it to Kashi and back. Why do some others live at Kashi till the moment of last breath in spite of no proper facilities of food or staying?

Varanasi, Banaras or Kashi – it has many names. This is the oldest city on the planet. However far human memory goes, they talk about a great city called Varanasi that was built between two rivers of Varuna and Asi. It is known that here were 72,000 shrines in Kashi.

Kashi was created as a powerful Yantra which allows a human being to unite with the cosmic reality.
In Kashi, they built a kind of instrument in the form of a city which brings a union between the micro and the macro. This little human being can have a phenomenal possibility of uniting with the cosmic reality, of knowing the pleasure, ecstasy and beauty of becoming one with the cosmic nature. Geometrically, Kashi is a perfect manifestation of how the cosmos, or the macrocosm and the microcosm, can meet.
