There’s a MASSIVE disconnect out there. My friends (some are HCPs) admit Covid is killing me. They say “I’ll miss you,” while pretending their families will live long & healthy lives, permanently marked safe from Covid, no behavior changes required. 😵💫
It doesn’t work that way.
There’s this PERSISTENT misguided belief that everyone who will ever be maimed or killed by Covid already has, and those who are still left standing are THE SURVIVORS.
Of course we’re walking right into a record wave as we speak, & no one is protected.
And few ever acknowledge reinfections DRAMATICALLY increase the risks and change the game entirely, a thread:
I’m tired. I’m tired of begging people not to disable their kids. I’m tired of people looking at my broken body & deciding it must be mental illness or my choice. I don’t expect to survive long-term (& I expect to go a lot faster if my kids attend school this year). I’m TIRED.
Things I’ve heard:
“If you had more money, you could feel good & get better.”
“You need to get out more & get involved in life off Twitter.”
“It’s just your anxiety.”
“You’re deconditioned. You need to exercise.”
“You just need a job.”
None of this fixes mitochondrial damage.
@FridaysChild14 I’ll never forget this video (linked in below thread) from the Lancet’s Editor-in-Chief.
Of course we don’t hear these complaints much anymore. Folks are mostly quiet, accepting their fates.
This is how my conversations go these days. When you carefully breach the topic of Covid, folks aggressively shut it all down. So many people are CHRONICALLY ILL after Covid, routinely reinfected, insisting they’re not. They will literally go to their graves insisting. It’s sad.
And I get the distinct feeling the sick & disabled are being quickly escorted to their premature deaths because folks *genuinely* believe normal comes back when all the sick people are dead.
Except…we’re creating 31,000-125,000 new LongCovid causes PER DAY.
Folks are keeping up appearances, taking their trips & sending their sick kids to school. They’re expected to “push through” until their broken little bodies give out, & then they’re hidden away in back bedrooms when they can go on no longer—forgotten so their families can LIVE. (Until they get sick too) It’s all so breathtakingly wrong.
@chelseacuzzocr4 But that was 2021, and I imagine it’s a lot harder now that EVERYONE has hopped aboard the back to normal train. My dream is to see a return to communal living, so people aren’t forced to be tethered to loved ones who don’t care if they die & they can control their exposures.

We’ve been dutifully ignoring the warnings signs for weeks and weeks and weeks. The Covid media blackout in the US handily hit the carnage from Americans as everyone was living their best lives this summer, seeding the country with THIS.
Japan: In another tweet, it was reported, “The number of Japanese deaths this summer would be all-time high for the last 78 years, i.e., after World War II.”
We’re witnessing the logical conclusion to for-profit healthcare/for-profit survival. TENS OF MILLIONS Americans are uninsured. There’s no hope when your only healthcare is “God’s Plan,” & you work 3 jobs but still can’t afford rent & food. People are apathetic, waiting to die.
I’ve been talking to folks from my hometown who are uninsured & can’t afford to survive. Many are going full-on libertarian because they’re sick, struggling, poor, & furious. They’re drowning in student loan debt, newly disabled, hopeless, & they just want it to end quickly.
They see no reason to care about Covid or mass disease when premature death is coming from every angle, & their long-term survival is questionable. They often lash out & pretend they don’t care because they’re terrified & exhausted. They see no way out.
