Next week is going to be busy here in Atlanta: we're expecting Fulton DA Fani Willis to pursue indictments against Trump + others. I’ve been covering her elections interference case since the beginning, along with my @ajccolleagues. Here's a look at what to expect 🧵
For starters, my colleague @ajccourts put together this cheat sheet on where we've been and what's on the horizon ajc.com/politics/fulto…
@ajccourts We also cover all of this in the latest episode of our podcast about the probe, Breakdown ajc.com/news/breakdown…
@ajccourts We're expecting prosecutors to begin presenting their case to grand jurors on Monday morning. Past racketeering cases have taken about 2 days to present. Which gels with two witnesses in this case saying they were told to come in Tues ajc.com/politics/break…
@ajccourts Prosecutors will likely have members of their team summarize what they've learned over the last 2.5 years, including evidence last year's special grand jury compiled ajc.com/politics/exclu…
@ajccourts Think of this week’s presentation like a highlight reel from the special grand jury probe: the best evidence uncovered, the most compelling interviews. That grand jury heard from ~75 witnesses. We're expecting only a fraction of those people to be invited back
@ajccourts DA could also present final recommendations of the special grand jury, which we know suggested upwards of a dozen indictments, per forewoman Emily Kohrs. Here's what we know about their final report, which still remains sealed: ajc.com/politics/georg…
@ajccourts This current grand jury meets Mondays and Tuesdays, and we're not expecting prosecutors to want this stuff to sit out there for another week and then have jurors come back. So Tuesday is looking like the day jurors will vote on charges ("true bill" v "no bill")
@ajccourts All of this is years in the making. Willis launched her investigation in Feb. 2021, weeks after she was sworn in as DA. It was in response to the infamous leaked phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ajc.com/news/crime/new…
@ajccourts Willis previously told me that when the call first leaked, she prayed Raffensperger lived in Macon or somewhere else outside of her jurisdiction. But that was wishful thinking. She said it was her duty as DA to investigate. "I don't see where I really had a choice," she told me
@ajccourts From the beginning, Willis stated she was looking at Georgia's racketeering law. And she hired John Floyd, the state's foremost RICO expert, to consult with her office. Since then, she's discussed how she's a fan of the law ajc.com/news/crime/ful…
@ajccourts There are several incidents that unfolded between Nov. 2020 and Jan. 2021 that could be subject to indictments. That includes Trump phone calls to a handful of Georgia officials like Raffensperger, Gov. Kemp and others
@ajccourts There’s false testimony Rudy Giuliani and others gave to state lawmakers about vote counting, including at Atlanta’s State Farm arena ajc.com/politics/smoki…
@ajccourts Also, the harassment experienced by Fulton County poll workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman: ajc.com/politics/haras…
@ajccourts The breach of sensitive election data in Coffee Co in south Georgia: ajc.com/politics/a-rur…
@ajccourts And the meeting of "alternate" Trump electors in the Georgia Capitol: ajc.com/politics/lawye…
@ajccourts At least 18 people have been labeled “targets,” but since then at least 8 have struck immunity deals. Willis was also barred from investigating one, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, due to a political conflict of interest ajc.com/politics/judge…
To secure a “true bill” of indictment, at least 12 of the 23 jurors must agree that there’s enough evidence to show “probable cause” – basically that it’s more likely than not that somebody committed a crime
Trump has already ramped up his response. His campaign is airing a new ad in Atlanta making lewd (and false) allegations about Willis having an affair with a former client. He's called Willis "racist" and "phoney" Fani. He said today he has evidence for the grand jury Image
Trump's team has also appealed its long-shot effort to the state Supreme Court that would derail Willis' inquiry after it was rejected by a Fulton judge ajc.com/politics/break…
If and when Trump is indicted is when his legal team can truly ramp up its work. Almost immediately we're expecting his attorneys to try and remove the case to federal court, which would get Trump a more conservative jury, no cameras in the courtroom
With all that said, please follow along with us on and our podcast, Breakdown, which has covered every twist and turn of this investigation. We just launched a new season https://t.co/LBCNVHxNkyAJC.com

EXCLUSIVE: @ajccourts and I sat down with five of the Fulton County special grand jurors, who gave us a detailed, behind the scenes look at their eight months of service ajc.com/politics/exclu… #gapol
@ajccourts Among the new details they shared: 1. They heard a third Trump tape, a call with the late Georgia House Speaker David Ralston, 2. former U.S. Sen. David Perdue testified, 3. law enforcement was concerned about who might turn up on Mike Flynn's day that they brought in a bomb dog
@ajccourts We had previously known that Ralston and Trump had spoken in Dec. 2020, but the existence of a tape wasn't public knowledge. Audio of Trump's calls to Brad Raffensperger and elections investigator Frances Watson were almost immediately leaked to the press #gapol

Happening today: Michael Flynn to testify today before the Fulton County special grand jury after a two-month court fight ajc.com/politics/flynn… #gapol
Flynn’s appearance is a victory for DA Fani Willis, who has been fighting for his testimony for two months. He was compelled to appear after an appeals court in his home state of Florida denied his push for a stay on Tuesday ajc.com/politics/flynn…
Prosecutors have indicated they’re interested in questioning Flynn about the circumstances related to his pardon, the wild Oval Office meeting he reportedly participated in in Dec 2020, comments he made to Newsmax about seizing voting machines and more ajc.com/politics/flynn…

New: The @ajc is opposing a request by the Fulton County DA’s office to put under seal court documents it intends to file in the ongoing investigation of former President Donald Trump and his allies via @ajccourts
#gapol ajc.com/news/crime/ajc…
In a Monday court filing, the Fulton DA's office asked a Fulton judge for permission to file a motion under seal, saying it contained sensitive info. We don't know what it's regarding, but the DA's request was cced to attorneys representing 11 of the 16 fake GOP electors #gapol
The ongoing investigation “is a matter of profound public interest,” the AJC's motion argued. “Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a special purpose grand jury investigation of more public importance than this one.”
