Getting ready to listen to the SPS "Well-Resourced Schools" in the southeast part of Seattle. I will tweet anything notable and the themes.
Loving the caftan/top Bev is rocking.
Oh they actually shot to the audience when Bev asked the board members to stand! But I, um, wasn’t looking in time. Whoops.
Another speech from Dr. Jones where he goes sooooo close to connecting these conversations to the dire budget circumstances but not quite. It’s an elaborate dance. I like that we are keeping the conversation positive but also, the timeline is short.
They are giving more info about what all the staff folk in the room are doing. That’s good!
First Q: What are your favorite things about your school building? (I’ll be next with the themes)
Themes: updated A/C and HVAC for all schools, open green spaces and/or playfields, access for all students including students with disabilities, spaces to bring the community together, clean bright and accessible spaces, outside play spaces that are secure and safe…
…and performance spaces in our schools.
Question 2: “How do we make resources and services at each school stronger?”
YEEEESSSSSS to the toddler spinning around the room. I grew up a Baptist. That was me in so many church meetings. The Baptists have A LOT of meetings.
Themes: clarity for schools on PTSA funding and use of funding for staffing, clarity on the staffing available for each school, like what is the baseline we’re doing at each school, alignment on available resources between the district city and community partners.
Question 3: What kinds of programs do you and your student value most and why?
Themes: the idea of having all programs at all schools (music, art, theater, sports, languages) and the idea that we have after-school activities that are inclusive of all students regardless of ability or disability.
Now it’s Bev back for thank you’d and closing remarks.
Bev is so soothing. And with that, goodnight.

I'm watching the SW SPS "System of Well-Resourced Schools" meeting in the other window, not expecting to hear much different. We're getting fewer camera angles this evening. I love how Bev is Dr. Jones' hype man in these sessions.
There are possibly folks wearing shirts advocating for saving their schools at this meeting? Jones made an allusion to them in his speech, said there was no plan to consolidate any schools currently [right now. at this exact second.]
Back to the first focus question of "What are your favorite things about your students' school buildings?"
