One of Milei's libertarian candidates for national legislature in Argentina is a superhero cosplayer, here she is as Raven from Teen Titans. She also just got in trouble for saying she's "currently cosplaying as a congressional candidate" (lol)
66% counted in Argentina, the self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist Javier Milei currently leads all other political blocs.
If it holds, this would be not just a shock to Argentina's politics, but forebodes a global political earthquake, as Milei could suddenly be favored to win
Flies counter to not only polls but most analysis of the election that considered Milei's numbers to be significant but with dim chances of being elected
Why a global political earthquake? This is an "anarcho-capitalist" leading a major country, propelled by an internet movement
While Milei has been described as a hardcore libertarian he was also endorsed by Bolsonaro and considers himself a huge fan of Trump. "Paleolibertarian" would also be a descriptive word here, although again, the anarcho-capitalist label comes from Milei himself
I don't really know how anyone can log onto Twitter and start browsing leisurely the day after the Succession finale and not expect to see a thousand posts about it
Right-wing nationalists are poised for a lot of influence across Western Europe:
- Leading govt in Italy
- AfD hits 18% in Germany
- Vlaams Belang leading polls in Flanders
- Le Pen party with its best prospects ever
- Chega hitting 15% in Portugal
- Vox key to govt in Spain
Note on Vox: That's the most likely outcome according to polls. A general election will be held on July 23rd. If confirmed the country would ratify a right-wing shift, as Vox could also support or enter regional governments in 6 different Spanish communities
Chega could also be key to a right-wing coalition in Portugal, but that election is decidedly further off
Polling has been bad for Sanchez for over a year now. Weird part is that this move potentially maximizes the People's Party momentum heading into the vote when he could have waited a couple more months. Comes across as "let's get this over with"
