1/ "I fucked him up so bad that the bastard fainted," says Major General Ivan Popov of the conversation he had with the head of Russia's armed forces, General Valery Gerasimov, that led to Popov's dismissal as the commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army. ⬇️
2/ An audio recording has been published of part of a conversation between Popov and his former subordinates, in which he talks about his dismissal in July 2023 after he complained about high casualties and the lack of artillery support.
3/ According to the VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, the 58th CAA is suffering from multiplying personnel losses as well as "instances of problems being glossed over when reporting to the leadership." It describes the contact of Popov's recorded remarks:
4/ "The officers of the 58th Army, not waiting for support from the new command and the General Staff, turned to their former commander Ivan Popov. In response, General Popov urged the officers to stand their ground and report only the truth."
5/ "In addition, he described exactly how his conversation with Gerasimov took place on the eve of his decision to resign."
6/ In the recording, Popov tells an unidentified person: "You and I are absolutely alike in this, [that's] just the truth. Especially when you have soldiers behind you and suddenly you have the lives of 1,000 people in your hands.
7/ "If I were cowardly, then I would look into the eyes of my soldiers and officers, I would simply lose face for the rest of my life and then I would never forgive myself for this cowardice.
8/ "I fucked [Gerasimov] up so bad that the bastard fainted. It was a straightforward conversation."

This fits with an earlier description of Popov's confrontation with Gerasimov in a leaked audio message published on Telegram by Russian MP Andrei Gurulyov.
9/ In that message, Popov says:

"I also raised a number of other problems and expressed it all at the highest level frankly and extremely harshly.
10/ "I had no right to lie, therefore, I outlined all the problematic issues that exist today in the army in terms of combat work and support."
11/ The recording is likely related to recent reports that officers in the 58th CAA, which is fighting on the Zaporizhia front, have maintained contact with Popov as the situation has worsened there during the Ukrainian counter-offensive. He was said to be a popular commander.
12/ A Russian Telegram channel comments that Popov "states that all the problems that he reported in his report have only worsened and no one is taking any action to eliminate them."
13/ This view is corroborated by the Russian milblogger Yegor Guzenko on his 'Thirteenth' Telegram channel. He says: "I fully confirm this information. I knew about the breakthrough in that area [near Verbove] a week ago. Image
14/ "I dare to state the fact that slowly but surely the Khokhols [Ukrainians] are advancing, but the TV is full of "goida" [war cries]. Well, soon the veil will be lifted.
15/ "What they are thinking up there, I personally do not understand. Are they hoping for a deal? It won't work on our terms." /end

1/ The floor of an underground passageway in Belgorod is being dismantled in another fit of Russian anti-Ukrainian paranoia. The passageway, which is under construction, was to have a floor of yellow and blue tiles (perhaps reflecting the colours of the city's flag). ⬇️ Image
2/ However, this prompted complaints on social media due to the similarities to the yellow-and-blue Ukrainian flag. This "dangerous combination", as the Baza Telegram channel puts it, is now being removed hastily. Image
3/ It's yet another instance of the colours yellow and blue becoming a lightning rod for Russian nationalist paranoia and anti-Ukrainian sentiment. Many more examples in the thread below:

1/ Mobilised Russians from the Stavropol region complain that they've been "abandoned here like morons" at a railway station in western Russia, after being made to travel at their own expense and not being paid their salaries. They're now appealing for help. ⬇️
2/ In the short video, originally published on a private Telegram channel, men can be seen sitting or lying on the ground around a railway station which an unseen commentator says is the one at Kovrov in the Vladimir region. He says:
3/ "We were abandoned here like morons, and we're lying here like this. Nobody wants to take us back. They say you're travelling at your own expense. So, people are sleeping. I don't know how to deal with this and what to do about it.

1/ Female relatives of mobilised Russian soldiers from Buryatia in Siberia have appealed to Vladimir Putin for help after their requests to find out what has happened to their men were met with 'complete indifference' from the Russian military.
2/ The men are from the 37th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, based in Kyakhta, Buryatia and serving under the Northern Military District. After they came under Ukrainian artillery fire on 5 June 2023, contact was lost with them. They are currently listed as missing. Image
3/ According to the relatives, they "sent appeals [for information] to military unit 69647 [the 37th Brigade]. In response, we received complete indifference from the command of this unit." They list the names of the missing men in the video.

1/ Wounded Wagner fighters have reportedly been thrown out of hospitals with their treatments unfinished, their payments for medical care have been terminated, and payments and benefits to their families have also stopped. "A total scam!", says one outraged Wagnerite. ⬇️ Image
2/ 'We Can Explain' (MO) reports that the Russian government appears to have abandoned its previous commitments to Wagner members following Yevgeny Prigozhin's death. Putin's spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, said two days after Prigozhin died that Wagner now had no state funding.
3/ Earlier, during Prigozhin's mutiny, Putin had said publicly that the Russian state had paid over a billion dollars to Wagner. It appears that this flow of money has abruptly been cut off, likely with dire consequences for thousands of Wagner fighters and their families.

1/ Hundreds of Russian soldiers from Chelyabinsk were reportedly locked into boxcars to prevent them complaining to visiting officials about the theft of their supplies and non-payment of their salaries. ⬇️ Image
2/ According to Tatyana Zolotavina, the wife of one of the men, 380 soldiers from Chelyabinsk have been sent to fight in Ukraine. She says in a video that three days before they were sent, the men were hidden from an inspection by regional authorities by locking them in boxcars.
3/ Zolotavina says this was done to prevent them complaining. The men had been sent 500 packs of 'humanitarian aid' (essential supplies and equipment), none of which they received. Instead, they had to buy what they needed themselves.

1/ Men over 50, many with serious illnesses, are being forced to serve in the 'Donetsk People's Republic' armed forces despite this being illegal and in defiance of legal rulings and orders. "We turned out to be third-class people without rights", says one relative. ⬇️ Image
2/ ASTRA reports on the stories of a number of mobilised DNR residents who have been made to serve continuously, in some cases for 18 months, without any breaks. Under local and Russian law, men over 50 are not supposed to serve in the army. This has systematically been ignored.
3/ Thousands of relatives have travelled thousands of kilometers between Donetsk, Rostov, where the headquarters of the Russian Southern Military District is located, and Moscow, to petition military officials and politicians – so far without much success. Image
