1/ The Union of Soldiers' Widows of Russia claims that compensation payments for husbands killed in Ukraine are providing an "economic salvation for the Russian countryside". It praises the economic benefits of the "soldiers' coffins" provided by the state. ⬇️

2/ The group is fanatically pro-Putin and pro-war. A recent post on its Telegram channel condemns the upcoming Russian presidential election as too costly and says: "Putin is more than a president. [He is] a tsar, emperor. Russia doesn't need elections. Russia needs Putin."

3/ The 'Moscow Against Mobilisation' Telegram channel highlights a post from the group, which discusses how dead soldiers' compensation payments (known euphemistically as 'coffins') are allegedly transforming the impoverished communities where their families live.

4/ "It is no secret that in many villages and small towns, remote from regional and district centres. from regional and district centres, there are very, very many chronic problems: no money, no roads, no schools and often not even shops.

5/ "But it is often there that the brave men live who stand up for the defence of their homeland. And the death of such guys on the battlefield is also a reality of life.

8/ "Soldiers' widows are trying to arrange their everyday life, to repair their homes, to provide more decent living conditions for their children – and these soldiers' coffins from the state have a serious impact on local budgets.

10/ The Union of Soldiers' Widows concludes that the deaths of their husbands is merely one of the "unexpected turns that life sometimes gives us."

11/ The widows are evidently keen to expand their numbers, as they claim to have exposed over 10,000 draft-dodgers to force them to fight. In a recent message, they say:

12/ "Next week, we and our most devoted subscribers will approach a kind of victorious anniversary: we're going to hit the target of 10,000 (ten thousand!) identified draft dodgers, traitors and collaborators with enemies against whom we have filed complaints and statements.

13/ "Of course some managed to bounce back, of course some particularly violent statements were received, but there have already been sentences handed down, and preventive conversations have been held, and a lot of things have been done." /end
