Canada has a dark past with rampant racism against, and the cultural genocide/assimilation of Indigenous people. Most don't know about it - but we only closed the last Residential School in 1996.
Our treatment of Indigenous people is, and has been, abhorrent.

Residential Schools tore families apart, suppressing their languages, cultures, and traditions. We must remember this painful history to foster understanding and reconciliation. cbc.ca/news/health/re…

Generations of Indigenous children faced physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, their identities stripped away. It is vital to acknowledge and confront the deep-rooted trauma that still affects communities today.
2/ While proponents of this system suggest that it would improve access by offloading demand from the public system, the reality is that it would result in better access for economically advantaged citizens and worsen access for those who cannot afford private care.
3/ The Australian experience shows that for-profit facilities cater to profitable private-pay patients, leading to reduced access for public patients in public facilities.
