In BRICS meeting, Bhartiya PM Modi said -

"India is becoming voice of Global South and at upcoming G20 meeting, that voice will be heard"

This term is not related to North South direction

Global North is called to Developed Countries
Global South is called to developing and under developed countries

There is no fixed criteria to distinguish but generally people use Per capita GDP income

If GDP per capita
> 15000 USD = Global North
< 15000 USD = Global South

Most of the developed countries fall under northern hemisphere of earth, exception is Australia and New Zealand

Both are in southern part but called Global North Countries

Other side China which is in Northern side call itself Global south

Currently there r 134 countries in GS

China was first country who realized power of these 134 countries of Global South in 2014 and started to become leader of Global South

He started its OBOR program to develop infra in these countries and ended up putting them into debt trap

Situation changed after Covid n war

During Covid, All Global North countries and China left them dying and didn't help them

And here rose a new leader from Global South that is Bharat (India)

Bharat helped Global South countries during Covid.

Unlike Global North and China, Bharat approach is not Imperialist

Bharat whose civilization ethos based on Vasudev Kutumbkam (Entire world is one family) showed humanitarian approach in helping GS countries during covid and these countries realized this also

In Jan 2023, Bharat organised first virtual summit of Global South countries

123 countries participated in this summit excluding China and Pakistan

Today Bharat made African Union formally part of G20

Bharat's visionary PM @narendramodi realized the Power of 134 Global South countries and today we can say Bharat has left China behind in this race
