🧵 Since @GavinNewsom thinks we're stupid or have no memory, here's a refresher of his autocratic, illogical, unscientific power grabs during COVID. In no particular order:
Then he wanted the name and address of every Californian who signed a recall petition. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
While all of our kids were kept out of school in the fall of 2020 (including those with special needs who needed in-person occupational therapy, including mine) Gav's went back to in-person school. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
And he didn't follow his own rules, so when one child was exposed to COVID at school, he lied and said a CHP officer in their security detail exposed the family. (Seriously, what a jerk.) redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
Oh yeah, almost forgot about this one - the equity measures for reopening, including how much of that area has a tree canopy and the density of liquor stores... seriously. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
And this @RedState exclusive, where we successfully made reservations at @GavinNewsom's Plumpjack winery over 4th of July wknd, 2020 - but once it got out that they were open, a sudden "emergency" shut the winery down 😂 (gotta take your fun where you can) redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
And @GavinNewsom's regulators made crazy rules about having to order food with alcohol so that "bars" wouldn't be open, but wineries would... 🙄 redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
And, is Biden the only one with a China problem? Gavin paid $1 BILLION for masks from a Chinese supplier, BYD, an electric vehicle company... they failed to deliver but he paid anyway. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
Don't forget all the violent offenders released to CA streets b/c Gavin was more concerned about THE CRIMINALS getting COVID than our safety. This headline nails it: "Sheriff Refuses to Enforce Lockdown Orders, is Too Busy Re-Arresting Released Convicts" redstate.com/alexparker/202…
And... "An Early Release of Seven Sex Offenders Results in the Early Re-Arrest of Six Sex Offenders" redstate.com/alexparker/202…
Another retaliatory measure - Newsom closed beaches in Orange County (ONLY) because their leaders were uppity. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
Very early on, he said the quiet part out loud about using this to usher in a progressive era... redstate.com/brandon_morse/…
He was ready TO ENACT MARTIAL LAW to get people to comply with his will. I'm sure there's more in our archives and I will update this. I refuse to allow this man to rewrite history when he's harmed all of us so deeply. redstate.com/jeffc/2020/03/…
And it's not directly related to COVID, but here's a little something I uncovered about him during the pandemic - something he has not cleared up YET, to this day. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
And, that cashout refi was a "sweetheart" loan as defined after the Countrywide scandal. AND he had one on his Marin house, too (which he has since sold) redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
BUT, even with all that cold, hard, tax-free cash coming his way (money laundering, anyone?) he didn't bother paying his property taxes on time. But told us that WE had to. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
So, churches. Let's get into churches. Gavin wouldn't deem them "essential" and even allowed them to be targeted despite Constitutional protections. (Note, @tedlieu and @davidhogg, if public health emergencies don't affect 2A, they don't affect 1A either) ...
And courageous pastors like John MacArthur held services knowing they'd likely be targeted by authorities redstate.com/alexparker/202…
And another, my friend Rob McCoy, temporarily turned his church into a strip club to be deemed "essential" redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
I tweeted this separately but I don't want it to get lost.
When @GavinNewsom tries to dance away from accountability w/smarmy remarks like, "Who is 'we'?" I think of this boy I wrote about in 2020. The question at the end of the piece stands, Governor. redstate.com/jenvanlaar/202…
ADDING after some claim that DeSantis "took a page out of Newsom's playbook." May 2020, playgrounds at beaches still closed, and the pier was closed too.
🧵A bit of the ties between leftist NGOs like CHIRLA (one of the groups funding anti-ICE riots and violence) and the CA "independent" redistricting commission...
Commissioner Sara Sadhwani, who spoke at Newsom's presser Friday, has worked for these NGO's for her entire career (even while a commissioner) - groups that attempt to influence the commission - starting with CHIRLA.
CHIRLA's Angelica Salas even submitted 1 of Sadhwani's 3 recommendation letters!
CHIRLA and the other NGOs Sadhwani worked for receive taxpayer dollars to "educate" minority communities on the redistricting process and encourage them to take part in public comment periods. These groups also routinely give people in those communities suggested talking points.
Receipts in thread ⬇️
She was at CHIRLA from '06 to '07, working directly w/Angelica Salas, then moved to Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA (formerly Asian Pacific American Legal Center) and left right before 2011 redistricting to be Strategy Director at California Immigrant Policy Center. That group was intimately involved in the 2011 redistricting.
CIPC advocates for sanctuary laws and removal of safeguards designed to prevent illegal aliens from voting or being counted in the census.
Kinda seems like she has an agenda on the commission, right?
🚨What if I told you that the man drawing the proposed new CA congressional maps counts almost every single Democrat legislator in the state as a client? Conflict of interest much?
According to multiple Sacramento sources, Paul Mitchell, owner of Redistricting Partners and VP of Political Data, Inc, is drawing the redistricting maps Gavin Newsom will attempt to ram down our throats.
He's married to the head of Planned Parenthood CA, and his firm PDI refuses to do business with Republicans. (More on that in a minute.)
Mitchell should be banned from participating in ANY redistricting after his successful campaign to hoodwink CA's Citizens Redistricting Commission back in 2011, which is documented in this ProPublica article: propublica.org/article/how-de…
Mitchell's firm PDI was the leading political data firm in the state for 3 decades, working with anyone who could pay. In 2021, without warning, they announced they'd only work with progressives and closed the accounts of Republicans/Republican-aligned groups. Anyone who works in politics knows what the loss of decades of data does to handicap a campaign. Mitchell is so partisan that he doesn't even care about that.
California voters have been overwhelmingly clear that they DO NOT WANT POLITICIANS or their lackeys drawing our districts, but CA Democrats don't care - they've already moved the discussion to the back rooms of the Capitol.
Again: The guy drawing the maps has almost every single Dem legislator as a client.
This cannot stand. We have until Aug 22 to keep it off the ballot.
🧵HAPPENING NOW: Unhinged leftists in Ventura County (the ones I've been sharing iG posts from) are in a standoff with ICE at a farm near Camarillo. VCBOS' Yianey Lopez goes oh KTLA to tell people who might need help to contact 805Undocufund and 805 Immigrant Coalition- the very terrorists who are out there staging an insurrection!
Occurring at Glass House Farms, a cannabis farm...
Here's video of Ventura County Supervisor Vianey Lopez telling people that 805 Undocufund and 805 Immigrant Coalition are good orgs and will provide legal assistance to detainees - those are the groups behind the insurrection
🔥🔥 🧵Amended Complaint in class action suit filed TODAY by Palisades Fire victims alleging new evidence including
🟠City of LA ignored its own brush clearance ordinances on City-owned vacant lots in the fire area
🟠 LADWP's energized power lines started multiple fires on Jan 7
🟠 LADWP failed to adhere to regulations re: inspection of cover on Santa Ynez Reservoir, then tried to cover up that failure - leading to delayed repair
🟠 State of CA added as Defendant (Hey @CAgovernor!)
🟠 LAFD didn't ensure that Lachman Fire, which started 1/1/25 very close to the ignition point for Palisades Fire, was fully contained.
🟠 There were no "hurricane force" winds during the first 6 hrs of the fire
🟠 LADWP failed to de-energize its lines in the area after the fire started, causing additional fires
🟠 LADWP patrolman didn't get to Palisades substation to de-energize the circuits until 5.5 hrs later - and he couldn't de-energize them bc "the outdated equipment failed and he had to evacuate the substation"
🟠 That patrolman tried to alter LADWP's computer log to eliminate the 5.5 hr delay
So, we’ve talked about CHIRLA and its part in what’s happening in Los Angeles. Just like the org itself, CHIRLA Exec Dir Angelica Salas has her tentacles everywhere. Grab snacks, pull up a chair, and let's go through it. 🧵
On Friday Salas was flanked by four LA City Council members, a CA State Assemblymember, a CA State Senator, and more. Her connections with Karen Bass go back decades. But she’s not just a bigshot in LA.
In 2023, right at the time CHIRLA’s state funding ballooned, Gavin Newsom appointed Salas to the newly-formed CA Racial Equity Commission, a state government entity. What a coincidence.
Salas is also on the board of the CA Wellness Foundation, an org started in 1992 when HealthNet, then the state’s largest insurer, converted from nonprofit to for-profit status. CA Wellness Foundation has morphed from its original mission to become a social justice and advocacy group. Here’s what was said in 1991 about how the group would be formed:
“The foundation will be governed by a board of seven trustees, who all have medical or professional health-care backgrounds. The board will disperse its funds through a grant process to community health care centers and other health-related organizations that focus on illness prevention, children's health care and prenatal care.”
And now? There are 14 board members, many of whom have zero background in medicine or professional health-care, and grants to community health care centers focusing on illness prevention, children’s health care and prenatal care are only a portion of the millions they hand out every year – so basically, another layer of funding for agitators.
And then we have Unite-LA, a public/private partnership for which Salas is a board member/board secretary. That group claims its mission is to “break through traditional silos to re-focus and re-imagine our education systems to put students first and achieve improved outcomes for Los Angeles’ underserved students.” Putting students first – what a novel concept. But what the org does is more of the same – indoctrinating students and creating malleable Marxist foot soldiers.
