The other "funny" thing about the airline stock shorts before 9/11 is that originally news media and investigative reports acknowledged it and speculated it was proof that bin Laden was "the ultimate insider trader" before realizing he wasn't involved in the trades and burying it
CBS reported it on the evening news as a trade imbalance like they "had never see before" and it was suggested that "bin Laden was using foreknowledge of the attacks to fund further operations." Until they investigated who made the trades and went "Oops, just a coincidence 😀"
While the focus is on the trades made 9/6-9/10, puts had been statistically elevated for an extended period of time before the attacks - a major indicator of insider trading. Yet another piece of evidence coincidence theorists write off because it doesn't fit their worldview.
Story from CBS, September 19, 2001
Sources tell CBS News that the afternoon before the attack, alarm bells were sounding over unusual trading in the U.S. stock options market. An extraordinary number of trades were betting that American Airlines stock price would fall. The trades are called "puts" and they involved at least 450,000 shares of American. But what raised the red flag is more than 80 percent of the orders were "puts", far outnumbering "call" options, those betting the stock would rise.
U.S. investigators want to know whether Osama bin Laden was the ultimate "inside trader" — profiting from a tragedy he's suspected of masterminding to finance his operation. Authorities are also investigating possibly suspicious trading in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Japan. There's always the danger that the stock trail stops at the water's edge if the money came from banks in countries that don't cooperate with the United States. But insider trading is always motivated by greed, and a senior Wall Street executive noted it would be ironic if the terrorists' greed ended up pro...

Parsing a trendline wrt the latest Google news. 1) Around the 80s/90s the process of enclosing outside world really kicks off. Third places are destroyed, there's nowhere to hang out in public, "bowling alone" etc. The death spiral for many irl communities begins.
2) The outside world is replaced by the inside world of the internet, cell phones, nonstop distractions. At first this seems like a new frontier. It's quickly enclosed by tech companies with teams of marketing psychologists deliberately trying to addict you to their platforms.
3) The inside world is then scraped for every piece of data imaginable. Every search you ever type, every DM you ever send, every post you ever make. All in a database to build AI models, marketing algorithms, behavioral predictions, and store blackmail on you if you ever act up

Democrat fundraising emails look identical in form, content, and presentation to generic email scams because the target demographic is pretty much the same. These are politically sanctioned scams that deliberately prey on the elderly.
And yes - it's deliberate. They blast these histrionic emails and texts because it tricks older, less internet/media savvy people and it scams those people into lining the pockets of consultants and politicians who couldn't care less about who they're robbing.
People 50-70+ are the top donors to political campaigns. They're also the demographic that overwhelmingly requests refunds. It's not because they want to speak to a manager. It's because they were scammed into donating (or their children noticed hundreds of recurring charges)

I don't understand why every time there's a protest in a foreign country everyone in the US feels compelled to signal they "stand in solidarity." You just learned about a massively complicated situation a few days ago. Do you know anything that wasn't told to you by someone else?
I mean, I *do* know why the media and influencers boost protests in nations the US wants to destabilize, and then berate you for not joining the chorus. I just don't get why so many people feel like they have to play along.
Even on the most superficial level: there's over a billion Chinese people. I'm pretty sure they've got a better handle on changing the politics of their own country than a bunch of people sitting 11,000+km away watching it through their cell phones.

I'm guessing most people have seen by now the video of the Canadian man who is so scared of being forced into homelessness that he's choosing death instead. I can't get over how plainly he says "I don't want to die" but the doctors sign his death slip anyway.
This is what capitalism does to the disabled, the poor, the people who can no longer produce profits for the privileged few. You will be discarded with the dignity of yesterday's garbage the moment you become unproductive. The lifeboat is shrinking and you're not on it.
Also to be blunt: all doctors who sign off on deaths like that should lose their licenses. Every technocrat pushing these policies should be forced out of public life. This is an unacceptable and frankly evil way to treat society's most vulnerable.

"I'm scared of driving through the South"

"Blue states should stop giving money to red/Southern states"

"The US would be better off if we got rid of the South"

Now, what do you mean by that? Image
My feelings are complicated. I get why some people hate the South. But what fascinates me is how often these asinine regionalist takes buy into a mindset that reinforces local power structures, class hierarchy, and racial oppression in ways that thrill the local KKK & oppressors.
It's not like it's an offer for help or a rallying cry of solidarity with the people fighting here. It's throwing those on the ground to the wolves as punition for living in a region that has suffered for centuries at the intersection of racial and capital domination.

If you read Pentagon reports (many are openly published) then you already know "megacities/urban unrest" are a top 3 threat factor for the military and you also know one of the "risks" involved is that US soldiers may not obey orders to shoot US civilians. Neat solution!
Do you think they invented this, got it to this point, and they're just done now? They won't iterate over it and improve its performance? That we won't see ICE deploying these robots against refugees, migrants, and border crossers within the decade for real-world test data?
