Designjoy has had 727 clients as a design subscription agency. 🤯

That’s millions in revenue.

Here’s how I’d get clients if I were to start all over:
Product Hunt.

I say with hesitancy because for most of you, this won’t work out unless you have an:

- audience
- kick-ass landing page
- target an untapped niche

But it’s so easy to do, it would likely be my first stop. You have nothing to lose.
Job Boards.

Subscription agencies are ideal for companies looking to hire full time help.

They’re most likely to stick around long-term, and it’s easy to sell the benefits of a Netflix-style agency over hiring full time.

No better place to look than those already hiring.
Agencies.

This is a funny one. Half of my clients at Designjoy are other agencies.

They take my work and sell it at a premium to their client base.

In turn, they don’t have to do the work.

Both of us make money. Total no brainer.
Venture Capital Firms.

These firms tend to have a portfolio of companies, and thus tons of design needs.

It’s far more economical to subscribe to Designjoy than to hire a designer for each company.

Easy sell.
Traditional Marketing.

If all else fails, you can always fall back on this.

It’s what every other competitor of mine does, and it seems to work.

Half the battle is getting the model in front of potential clients.

It can very much sell itself at that point a lot of times.
Hope that helps friends!

If you have any questions, feel free to comment below. ✌️

Happy client hunting!
Correction (X won't let me edit first post):

Client list is around 400-500.

Realized Stripe adds "guests" to client list, whatever that is. Image

Running a $100,000/m design agency alone has taught me some valuable lessons.

Here's 11 things I've learned over the years:
1. Make your offer irresistible.

I launched my design subscription service at just $449/m.

It was the steal of a lifetime.

Getting clients at that rate required zero effort given my skill level.

It reduced the risk for clients to try something new, and I learned a lot.
2. Increase prices with demand.

I didn't stay at $449/m long.

But my client list quickly filled up.

And as it did, I steadily increased my rates to $5,000/m. Quite the jump.

Increasing rates little by little allowed me to measure the impact on demand (which didn't exist).

Literally everyone in my feed is starting a design subscription service. 👀

You’ve probably seen it too.

Here’s 10 reasons why that’s happening: 🧵
It all starts with MRR.

A subscription service quite literally has recurring revenue built into the core of the business.

Landing a freelance client is great. But once the work is done, they usually move on, and you’re back to square one.

Not so with a subscription service.
Then, SCALE, SCALE, SCALE.

Designers are earning 3x-10x their salaries.

Finding 5 clients at a cost of $5k/m already yields you $25,000/m in recurring revenue.

That’s often just the start.

This wouldn’t be possible under any other model.

I've made millions from my design subscription service.

Thousands of people are building them as we speak.

Here's 7 more things you can sell as a subscription:
Content-as-a-subscription:

Focus on landing page copy (headings, body copy, CTAs, micro copy, etc.).

Could also easily include email copy.

Delivered in 48 hours. $3,000/m.

Example: Pagetear (pagetear.com)
Email-marketing-as-a-subscription:

Design, build, and launch email campaigns for clients.

I'd stick to a single tool to simplify the process (i.e. Mailchimp).

Delivered in 48 hours. $2,500/m.

No example found.

Here's how I'd build the Designjoy of development and make millions.

Development is much different than design.

But Designjoy is only one way of productizing a skill.

Let's look at another way:
Establish a fixed price and parameters and sell it as a subscription (in other words, a productized service).

Parameters could include languages you code in, and a cadence for meetings (if desired) and sprint cycles.

Here's an example:

My one-person design business has done $611,996 this year already.

It costs me $275 per month to run it (plus Stripe fees).

Here's a breakdown of the tools I use:
Design: @figma ($15/m)

Probably obvious, but I spend most of my day here.

I use it to design nearly everything from branding to full-scale product design. Image
Development: @webflow ($33/m)

The greatest no-code website builder on the planet.

I not only use it for the Designjoy.co site, but it plays a huge part in my service offering as well. Image
