1. Every Sunday, ministers make a conscientious decision on how they'll present themselves to the church. This could mean skinny jeans & t shirt; business suit/tie; rolled up sleeves & tattoos; Hawaiian shirt & flip flops; NFL jerseys; or dress shirt and slacks.
2. But the informality of fashion has affected how we see the preaching office & how we approach God in the divine service. Has informal dress led to weaker pulpits? Weakened views of the pulpit? Diminishing respect for the regular worship service? Absolutely.
3. The robe hides the person behind the office of minister. The man recedes; the office comes to the fore. Pastors are dads, husbands, buddies. But when preaching the Word, leading services, & administering the sacraments, they are ambassadors & ministers of God. 1 Thes. 2:13
4. Every vocation & office uses clothing to distinguish itself: police officers, doctors, judges, construction workers (vests & hard hats), etc. This shows they don't act/speak for themselves. They are under orders. They are competent. The Genevan robe helps convey the same.
5. The Genevan robe obscures the fashion preference of the minister: nice tie, ugly suit, bling bling, cool tats, etc. The robe draws attention away from the person and towards the office of minister.
6. The robe reminds the minister of his duty. Psychologically, it is harder to be a clown or comedian in the pulpit when garbed in the robe.
7. It sets the tone of the service. The robe creates a healthy solemnity & reverence that is missing in most churches today. The congregation is reminded of what the divine service is about.
8. Clothing & calling go together. Is it coincidence that as the Genevan robe was discarded, the church became more loose in doctrine and practice? Considering the looseness of our pulpits & the flippancy of most congregations, isn’t time for a sturdy dose of the old way?
Conclusion: The Genevan robe has been the garb of choice for Reformers & Presbyterians for 500 years. Even the Baptists used to wear them. This opinion is more a matter of practicality & sanctified wisdom, not something binding, but its time to make the Genevan robe great again.

Why paedocommunion is unbiblical, unwise, and not Reformed. 🧵
Baptism vs. Lord’s Supper
Baptism is passive: “be baptized,” meaning something done to the recipient. Baptism is sign of initiation into church; God’s promise to us
Lord’s Supper is active: take & eat; examine; do this “in remembrance.” Calvin: requires “the mouth of faith”

Baptism vs Lord’s Supper cont…
WLC 177: Baptism is to be administered but once, with water, to be a sign and seal of our regeneration and ingrafting into Christ, and that even to infants;

🧵 Part 2: why I went from 1689 to WCF; from baptist to presby; from credo to paedobaptism. (See part 1 from last week)
Still love my 1689 brothers & would go to war w/them any day of the week.🔥😤👊🧨But the WCF is simply more consistent.
Jer 31:31: "new" means "a new iteration of something previously existing."
There are options Jer could've used: brand new, etc. He picks the word that means an updated version, a better version. NOT brand new. Same thing in Hebrews.
1 covenant of grace; 2 administrations
Mosaic Cov part of C.O.G.:
1) God maintains His covenant w Abraham, Isaac, Jacob in spite of Israel’s repeated unfaithfulness (Ex 32; Psa 106:23; Num 16:45–50)
2) a formal gospel preaching was offered continually by symbols/ types: Christ revealed!
🧵on why I went from 1689 to 1646; from baptist to presby; from credo to paedobaptism…
If you’re not a presby when you reach the other end, are you really being honest😤Love my Baptist brothers👊

God works in households; this is the general paradigm…
1. Noah’s family spared bc of his faith 2. God tells Abraham He will be God to him & his seed 3. Passover: whole family is spared by faith of one person applying blood to doorpost 4. Rehab’s family spared bc of her faith
2
Of the 9 baptism narratives in the NT, 6 of them are household baptisms. The other 3?
1. Paul, who had no family 2. Ethiopian eunuch, who had no family 3. Simon the magician…family unknown
Although an argument “from silence,” the silence is deafening. God works in houses.
