I cleared back to back UPSC prelims and here I am sharing how I did (On multiple requests)
It might be helpful to those who
-Are doing full time job
-Don't want to take coaching
-Unable to clear prelims in 2 or 3 attempts
A detailed π§΅on how to be atmanirbhar
History
For ancient and medieval, relied solely on my 17 pager note that I made out of Tamil Nadu class 11, 12 history textbook.
Was able to revise it before exam in 2 to 3 hours.
For art & culture, used Nitin singhania's hand written note and revised it multiple times.
Covered modern history completely from spectrum. Made no notes instead value addition was done in book itself.
Polity
Read Lakshmi Kant twice, made 30 pager notes out of that. Revised personal notes uncountable times.
Environment
Made 7 pager notes of basic concepts like organisations, ecology terms, etc from various sources mostly google.
Concise notes came in handy for revision before exam.
Current part covered from vision magazine.
Economy
Tried to read class 11, 12 ncert but it went off my head.
Later on followed Shankar Ganesh, made 18 pager notes and revised it multiple times.
Current part from vision magazine.
Geography
Had no personal note which I regret of not making. Covered topics mostly from Google and mrunal geography lectures on YT, which consumes a lot of time to revise before exam as I had not made notes.
Always make your own notes for static, you will thank me later.
Current affairs
Read current only for S&T, Environment, IR, and economy from Vision magazine.
Did not read anything current related for other subjects.
PYQs
In my initial 2 attempts gave 50+ mocks from various coaching institutes but did not clear prelims.
In further attempts, switched my strategy towards PYQs and cleared next 2 prelims.
How to analyse PYQs?
Mapped each question of last 12 year papers on google sheets subject wise.
Tried to understand how questions are framed, how options are set, which topic should be focussed more, what to leave, repetitions, what to expect in future papers.
This year I did not give a single mock for prelims, still cleared. But, attempted last year papers, like mocks multiple times.
Won't recommend this to people giving their first attempt as you must give at least 2 to 3 mocks on exam center to set your hands.
Do not depend on anyone, you might not clear on borrowed analysis. Most of the mocks and notes are not worth your time, they are just available to make easy money out of gullible aspirants. Do not fall prey to that.
With the advent of chatgpt, it is easy to make fake and cheap quality materials, even the folks who have not given or cleared the exam are selling false hopes. Beware of that.
Do not loose your hard earned money.
Be Atmanirbhar and trust me you will sail through.
All the above strategy has worked for me and it might not work for everyone. Learn from the above and develop your own methods of clearing prelims.
All the best!

Upto 2019 the questions were easy to moderate. But in 2021 the level of questions was increased and same was continued in 2022.
For a candidate without proper preparation crossing cutoff post 2021 has become difficult.
But if we see previous year papers we get direction of what to practice in quant.
For example, lately appearance of quadratic equation has become more prominent and we can see 3-5 questions.
Other topics that repeat continuously are P&L, CI&SI, ratio & proportion, boats, etc.
The above topics should be prioritized over others and must be practiced exhaustively in mocks. Practice in such a way that any thing that comes from above topic must be done in 1st 10 to 15 minutes.
What will I cover? 1) Phase I 2) Phase II 3) Coaching needed? 4) Mocks? 5) ROI?
Even if this helps any student in any way to clear RBI grade B then I will consider writing this thread as successful.
A long thread π§΅π
How to cover prelims?
Phase I consist of 4 sections GK (80), Quant (30), Reasoning (60), English (30)
GK is the make or break section for Phase I. In last 2 years the toughness of this section has increased. If you could get 40 - 50 here then clearing phase I would be easy.
Strategy should be to revise current affairs of the last 5 months multiple times. Affairscloud pocket pdf can be followed.
Quant is tough just below the CAT level. But nothing to worry about as the cutoff in the last 2 years has not crossed 5 marks out of 30.
Why all the UPSC aspirants, who have given 1 or 2 serious attempts and are from humble background must consider filling SSC CGL 2023 form?
Reasons 1) Syllabus & exam format has changed from 2022 and needs no extra preparation.
2) Aptitude, reasoning and english questions are easier than CSAT. 3) Average UPSC aspirant will score higher than SSC aspirant in GK. 4) Vacancies are 7 times of civil services. 5) Clearing this will boost your confidence.
Though, I am in a good paying full time job still gave CGL without preparation (took no mocks) in 2022.
Result: Wrote mains where i am scoring around 300 out of 390 and am hopeful of getting some post. π€
