1/ Relatives of mobilised Russians from Tatarstan have appealed to the Russian authorities to "follow the orders" of President Putin and Defence Minister Shoigu and stop using their men in assaults in eastern Ukraine, where they say they are suffering huge losses.

2/ The relatives are from Kazan in Tatarstan. According to ASTRA, the men are fighting in the Svatove area of eastern Ukraine, where fierce fighting has been taking place for months.

3/ According to relatives, mobilised men are being used in place of professional soldiers who "abandoned their positions and fled." Now, ASTRA says, "mobilised people without training or uniform are forced to besiege the territories controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces."

4/ In the video, the relatives say:

"We are close relatives of regiment 1234, the second battalion of military unit 29660 of the Republic of Tatarstan, we beg you to help and save our Tatarstan battalion.

5/ "For the second year our fighters performed defence in the eastern direction. As of today most of the battalion is on the assault. The rest of it is being deployed from one day to the next. They are suffering colossal losses. Every minute there are reports of wounded and dead.

6/ "They do not refuse to defend their country, to fulfil their constitutional duty. We ask that the orders of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Defence Minister Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu be carried out.

7/ "The mobilised should be in defence, not on the front line. We hope, we hope for your assistance. Bring back our men!"

8/ The Tatarstan mobiks appear to have had a difficult time in the war in Ukraine. In November 2022, relatives recorded an appeal complaining that they had been sent to trenches outside Svatove with 40-year-old rifles and without training or food. /end
