🧵Incredible @JakeTapper interview with Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of the founder of Hamas, who actually was an undercover informant for Israel from 1997 to 2007.

Yousef: "Since I was a child I always complained to my father about hamas abuse of power and their brutality, you know, they're very strict and they -- they're religious -- they're fanatics".
.@JakeTapper: "Did the barbarity and the cruelty of what Hamas did to innocent civilians on October 7, did that surprise you?"

Yousef: "Well, you know, they surprised me as they surprised everybody by the scale of the attack...but their brutality, their nature, it did not surprise me. You know, back in 1996, they killed so many people, they tortured so many people...They did all type of crazy things, you know, they put needles under people's fingernails, you know, and I witnessed that firsthand. So, I'm not surprised to what extent Hamas can go, but the scale...was surprise I think for everybody including Hamas themselves."
Incredible words from @MosabHasanYOSEF, the son of Hamas founding member to CNN's @JakeTapper:

"Israel is fighting on behalf of America, Israel is fighting on behalf of the Palestinian people. Israel now is fighting on behalf of the free world. This is not A political propaganda. I as, as an ex-Hamas member, the son of the founder of Hamas organization and today as an American citizen, I ask the President of the United States to give Israel the necessary cover, the necessary supply, whatever it takes to uproot Hamas. Otherwise, the next war is going to be deadlier."
.@JakeTapper: "Strategically, do you think it is wise for the Israeli Defense Forces to stage a ground incursion into Gaza to uproot Hamas? Do you think that's a smart thing to do?

Yousef: "Well...Hamas started this war...[T]hey start a war every few years. Whenever they want money, you know, they shed children's blood. This is their game, and this has to stop. This has to come to an end, and, unfortunately, the price is not going to be cheap. In fact, I feel very sorry for Israel that they have to go into Gaza where there are booby traps all over the place and tunnels all over the place...This is the most complicated mission a modern army has...[W]hat I suggest, you know, to the Israelis, that they wait. They take their time. They collect intelligence, and what I need from the United States to give in support, in fact, I would like to see the Navy SEALS taking part...We need to free Palestinians and free Gaza from Hamas".
.@JakeTapper: "What can you tell us about what motivates these people. What are they like? What are the leaders of Hamas like? What do they want?"

Mosab Hasan Yosef: "Well, they are a religious movement and this is what everybody is afraid to say. If Hamas was a political movement then we can satisfy their political ambition but Hamas is a religious movement that does not believe in political borders. You know, they want to establish an islamic state on the rubble of the state of Israel. They want to annihilate the Jewish people and the Jewish state. They want to kill everybody who support Israel then establish an Islamic state...They want to establish eventually an Islamic state, a global state...[T]he more power, you know, we give them, the more aggressive they are going to be...You know, in war, people die...Israel did not start it but Israel will end it."
CNN's @JakeTapper: "So, the United States insists that the aid being provided for civilians in Gaza will not go to Hamas...Do you believe that the aid will only go to the innocent Palestinians?

Yousef: "You know, the United States and Europe have been very generous with the Palestinian people but their leadership steal the money all the time. They steal the aid. So much aid came into Gaza, Hamas used all that aid to build tunnels under the ground and now look at the chaos they are creating...[W]e have to enforce unbreachable siege on Hamas...They are under the ground. They have hostages. We have to cut power. We cannot give them food. We cannot give them water and we have to deplete them...before we can even go in...[O]therwise we cannot win this war against this brutal enemy, enemy of humanity."

.@RonDeSantis blasts anti-Semitism, including white nationalists like Nick Fuentes, in CNN interview with @JohnBerman: "That is totally outrageous. You know, this garbage out there, you hear things people are saying that the babies really somehow weren't killed, that this was all just manufactured...But we've got to put that garbage aside and we've got to stand with Israel. And, yes, we have to condemn the anti-Semitism that has motivated these attacks and that has motivated attacks around the world."
@RonDeSantis @JohnBerman CNN's @JohnBerman: "How do you feel about Republicans associated themselves w/[Nick Fuentes]?"

@RonDeSantis: "Well, I reject all conspiracy theories of that nature. I think that we just have so much garbage in our society rn. I mean, it broke my heart to see those demonstrators"
@RonDeSantis @JohnBerman .@JohnBerman: "Should Republicans be eating with Nick Fuentes?"

.@RonDeSantis says "my record speaks for itself" as "I'm proud of what we've done in FL....to combat anti-Semitism," "provided security assistance for our Jewish day schools," and "beefed up Holocaust education"

Incredibly powerful moments on @Morning_Joe after a Tel Aviv presser from families of those taken hostage by Hamas🧵

@JGreenblattADL: "Well, look, Joe and Mika, I’m going to do my best not to break down on the air. It sort of helps I have heard so many of these stories. I have friends who were killed. I have family hunkered right — down right now in Ashkelon. I have staff who can’t locate members of their family. This is the worst of days. And, you know, I really appreciate what you said before this segment. Like, a lot of people are focusing right now on was this a military failure? Was this an intelligence failure? Joe, this was a moral failure that we are all accountable for, because Hamas told us again and again and again and again in their charter, in their statements, through their actions that their goal has never been a two-state solution.

It has never been dignity and national — nationhood for Palestinians. It is the destruction of the Jewish state. It is the murder of Jews. And I — we just — we have got to stop referring to what happened on Saturday as an attack as if it was military on military. This was a massacre. This was a slaughter. The appropriate word is medieval. And the appropriate points of comparison are al-Qaeda and ISIS."
.@JGreenblattADL: "So what I have got to ask — you know, and thank God for...the civil rights groups...who...stood up. But where are the university presidents who gave clear statements about all these other causes that mattered. It — Black Lives Matter, Stop AAPI Hate, it matters. Stand for Ukraine, it matters. Why — why are they silent on dead Jews? Why is my inbox empty with messages from CEOs, from major religious movements? Why? Where are they? Thank God for Congress. Thank God for President Biden. Thank God for the European leaders. But this moral failure — this rot — I see it in our civil society right now."
.@JGreenblattADL: "And I’ve got to say. You know, I’m in my office in midtown on Sunday. You know, we’ve been working around the clock and the work that we’re doing at ADL pales in comparison to what they’re doing in Israel. Let me be clear about that, but I hear chanting this outside our office and we look down, and there is one of these pro-Hamas protests. And you know, I don’t know if you’ve seen the documentary Night at the Garden, but in 1939, 20,000 Americans gathered in Madison Square Garden to cheer on Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. This was after kristallnacht. This was after they prevented Jews from working, they stole their money, they were beating and murdering them in the street. These protests here in America, these pro-Hamas, pro-terror demonstrations, these are like pro-Nazi things in this country in the ‘30s. And they will not be remembered well when history looks back, because they are complicit, these accomplices. They are guilty for excusing and for rationalizing the absolutely barbaric irrationality of terror."

DOOCY TIME: "Biden didn't say 'there will not be another ft of wall constructed excepted what was appropriated in 2019'. He said, 'there will not be another ft of wall constructed in my administration.' So, something changed. What?"

KJP: "You want us to break that law?"
KJP: "You want us to not comply w/the law."

Doocy: "I'm not--I'm asking."

KJP: "What you--but what you want us to not comply--"

Doocy: "--he was declarative."

KJP: "--w/the law. You want us to not be an administration that follows the rule of law."
Doocy: "You guys do this all the time...The student loan forgiveness program. You went to court...If this is such a problem, building 20 miles of wall, why not just go to court?"

KJP: "We went to congress. Congress appropriates the funding, we asked them to not use that funding"

JACQUI TIME: "CDC still recommends universal indoor masking for kids in school...[T]hat seems out of step w/some of the studies around the usefulness of masks for kids...Should we keep funding these studies if the CDC's not making guidance that follows...those studies?"
KJP to @JacquiHeinrich on masking kids: "We did something that the [Trump] administration was incapable doing, which is put to forth a strategy to really, truly deal w/COVID-19...We put forward a comprehensive plan...We have the tools & that includes masking...We know what works"
@JacquiHeinrich .@JacquiHeinrich: "Do--do you know what works, though? The CDC does not seem to be responding to the data."

KJP: "I'll say this...CDC--they're the experts. They use science...w/their guidelines & it is important that we allow them to do their work...We let FDA do their work"

Let's talk about how NBC's Dasha Burns is lying here.

@RonDeSantis notes he'd oppose what "the left wants to do, which is to override pro-life protections" & allow abortions" up to birth, but Burns says "that's a misrepresentation" & only "1.3% of abortions" are late-term.
@RonDeSantis NBC's Dasha Burns, pants on fire, telling @RonDeSantis that "[t]here’s no evidence of Democrats pushing for abortions up until" birth & "there's no indication" they are "pushing for that."

Let's start with states. Colorado, Maine, & NY have expanded abortion access in recent yrs
@RonDeSantis Here the new law Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills signed last week. From the AP: "The bill would allow abortions at any time if deemed medically necessary by a doctor." apnews.com/article/maine-…

.@RonDeSantis on crashing Twitter: "We had a huge audience. It did. It was the biggest it ever had. It did break the Twitter Space, and so we're really excited with the enthusiasm. But ultimately it's about the future of our country...We know the country is on the wrong track."
@RonDeSantis .@RonDeSantis to @TGowdySC: "Truth needs to be the foundation of everything we do, and common sense can no longer be an uncommon virtue...We need to win again. As Republicans, we got to dispense with this culture of losing."
@RonDeSantis @TGowdySC .@RonDeSantis: "If we have another 4 yrs of the Biden administration, I think that some of the damage is going to be irreversible...You've got to be able to win and then when you get an office, you've got to be able to deliver results & I think that we have been able to do both"
