This brief treatise will be very direct.

To anyone reading this, you have probably come across the idea of The Network State. For many this is a technical problem arising from software issues. This is the end result of viewing statecraft like an AI or a Blockchain startup.

However, this is not how states gain their power. Anthropologically, startups represent a form of low-power. They are a natural democratizing movement. Low-power has been incredibly popular since the end of the Cold War.

Modesty in Time & Space. A thread on public decency standards around the world in the modern age. Using AI tools, I’ve quickly uncovered observable data on modesty and it’s cultural and psychographic implications 🧵

Caveat, much of this data isn’t perfect, it may not be up to date or may make strong generalizations where notable exceptions exist. However, I find most of it to be remarkably good by most anthropological research standards.

All of these charts are on a 0-10 scale with ‘0’ representing nakedness and ‘10’ representing being completely covered. First chart is Women’s Public Decency Standards Globally. This refers to lowest denominator clothing a woman could wear without any social repercussions. As you can see Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Afghanistan are the highest (at 10) and Brazil is at the lowest (at 3). Keep in mind these are nationalized averages. A beach resort town is not representative at all of an entire group of people. For example, on average Mexicans are slightly more modest than Americans.

Death

Our society is dying!

Despite immense material progress we are burdened with depression, succumbing to nihilism, and unmotivated to build the utopias that our forefathers dreamed of. Our institutions are collapsing. We live in a dark age of discord, a great span of skepticism, and a day of denial, distrust, and death.

Death is lurking. Unlike the fiendish famines, perilous plagues, and wrathful wars of old, our death is of our own making.

Zoomers have nothing to live for and commit suicide before they even turn 18. Anti-natalist attitudes permeate our society. They instill subversive values saying that it’s not worth being around to see tomorrow. Cults denigrate human progress and offer secular prognostications of apocalyptic armageddons.

We are a civilization of apathy, one that is past feeling, one that has given up the ghost. We live in a metaphysical wasteland with zombie like corpses that are infested with malicious mind viruses that prey upon the weak and the innocent.

We are at the precipice, and if we don’t take action now our civilization will collapse. Fortunately, we have a solution. The answer is Psychological Accelerationism.

Social Technologies - Part 2

The physical is permanently tied to the spiritual. The scientific revolution only happened because of the social technologies that were built upon hundreds of years of Christendom.

Your reality is fundamentally and inextricably connected to your language. Culture catalyzes mechanization. There’s a reason why the time obsessed Swiss created clocks.

Social engineering is typically not a process of machinations. It’s done to cultivate consciousness. Marriage, money, religion, polities, education, and all aspects of culture are founded upon social engineering.

All technologies are predicated upon social interactions. Our coeval coders remarkably resemble the medieval monks of yonder times. All genius is generated upon shoulders of bygone giants.

If our social technologies suffer our physical technologies will suffer.

It matters not if the body is whole if the soul is sickly.

You could have every material want and die of a broken heart.

Billions upon billions have been invested into physical technologies. Since 1971 our physical world has lacked innovation as our social world has collapsed.

Ethics - Part 3

Techno-optimism cannot happen without trust.

Tech lost that trust in the 2010s. No one cares what gadgets and gizmos can do if they don’t make people happy. Since 2012 technological progress has been directly associated with a decline in mental health.

It does not have to be this way.

This is a problem inherent to Web2 as deteriorating social bonds create a world without joy.

The user believes that the technology is not made for them. It has been designed for some obfuscated corporate interest, state actor, or nebulous social coalition.

Techno-optimism must exist. However, it must be human centric.

Whereas technology monopolies have increased their power, influence, and dominance on societal affairs, and given the circumstances of cultural decline, rising inequality, and a visceral depersonalization of common relationships, it becomes a vital imperative that artificial intelligence must only be used to benefit humanity.

Artificial Intelligence has largely been focused on creating efficiency gains over innovation and authentic human interaction. AI needs to raise the standard of ethical human behavior. This cannot be based on legalism (what is legal, or technically allowable). It also cannot be based on utilitarianism. AI ought to encourage people to do right in all situations. Humans categorically make mistakes. Machines can be programmed to avoid similar mistakes. Machines can not only benefit humanity in the short-term but also for the long-term greater good. AI must encourage people to abide by higher standards of moral conduct.

Now speaking more informally, a lot of Tech Bros have been opportunistic jerks. In a functioning society the technological class would be inseparable from the priest class. AI would be developed by those who cherish truth and virtue.
