While inflation has slowed recently, prices for everyday items have not. That’s because between 2020 and 2022, corporate profits rose by 75 percent—five times as fast as inflation. /2 SO, WHAT IS GREEDFLATION? greedflation noun 1. Corporations raising prices on consumers - not to offset inflation - but to increase their own profits. CORPORATE PROFITS (2012-2023)
What does that mean for families? It means you're paying more for products not just to cover higher costs - but so corporations can pad their profit margins. /3 HOW IT'S IMPACTING FAMILIES The average Pennsylvania family has paid thousands more a year just toward greedflation. $3,194 IN 2021 $3,546 IN 2022
From chicken to diapers to Diet Coke, the cost of everyday household items is going up because of greedflation. /4
Even as corporations raise prices, their executives are bragging about how they plan to still have consumers pay more.
 
Here are some examples 👇/5 MEANWHILE, CORPORATIONS ARE BRAGGING ABOUT RAISING PROFITS • PepsiCo's CFO admitted in April 2023 that even though inflation was going down, their prices would not. • The CEO of Coca-Cola claimed that the company had "earned the right" to push price hikes because its sodas are popular. • When asked if Clorox might roll back price increases as commodity prices fall, the company admitted it "anticipate[s] the pricing increases will stick." • Colgate-Palmolive's CEO bragged that they "led pricing" compared to other companies.
The days of corporate greedflation must end. We can fight back by by putting money back in the pockets of working families, making corporations pay their fair share, fighting price gouging, and taking on monopolies. /6 WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT? PUT MORE MONEY IN THE POCKETS OF WORKING FAMILIES MAKE BIG CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE FIGHT UNFAIR CORPORATE PRICE GOUGING TAKE ON CORPORATE MONOPOLIES TO INCREASE COMPETITION AND LOWER COSTS

While inflation has slowed, prices for many holiday staple foods have not. This is due to corporations raising prices above the rate of inflation. /2 What's Going On? Companies that process Americans’ food have increased prices for everyday staple foods faster than the pace of inflation. This type of greedflation will strain family budgets during the holiday season. Chart showing the increase in pork, chicken, and potato prices compared to the rate of inflation.
Let's look at some specifics, while inflation has risen 19% since January 2020 - the prices of chicken, pork, and potatoes have all increased much faster. /3 What Are They Raising Prices On? Since January 2020, inflation overall has risen 19 percent, but... - Chicken prices went up 38% - Pork prices went up 28-30% - Potato prices went up 25%

I came to Washington in 2007 with the firm belief that to support and honor Pennsylvania’s deep-rooted hunting culture meant that I should not support restrictions on guns.

Then Sandy Hook happened.
The idea that 26 children and educators could be slaughtered in a matter of minutes because a 20-year-old had virtually unfettered access to weapons of war was too much to bear.

So I changed my position. Now, it’s time for many of my colleagues in the Senate to do the same.

We cannot simply surrender to this problem.

These parents and children fled unspeakable violence in their home countries in Haiti, Central America and South America. For many of them, deportation is tantamount to a death sentence. /2

Our Nation has reached another painful milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic. Two hundred thousand Americans have lost their lives to this cruel virus. Every death represents a human life lost, a family shattered, a community forever changed.
We have lost parents, sisters and brothers, grandparents, friends, colleagues, classmates, neighbors and heroes on the front lines.
My prayers and my deepest sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones, and those who are living with the long-term health repercussions of the virus.

It didn’t have to be this way.
