Through NAFO, I get to know all the characters around the world linked to Kremlin propaganda. It shocks me when they pop up in Ireland meeting Irish politicians. I was reading this article by Gabija Gataveckaite about Sinn Fein and what name popped up only "Dan Kovalik"
1/10 Image
I suspect that only a handful of Irish readers know who Dan Kovalik is so mention of his name in the Irish Indo article might not get much attention. NAFO Fellas bonking Kremlin propaganda know who Dan Kovalik is and his name immediately sets off alarm bells 🔔🔔
2/10 Image
The Irish Indo article mentions that Kovalik travelled to Belfast and met with at least three Sinn Fein politicians during a book launch and public discussion at the James Connolly Visitor Centre. Kovalik is not the sort of character I would be inviting to Ireland.

Dan Kovalik advertises himself as a lawyer, professor and author. He is most famous for his articles, books and Twitter feed which is all full of Kremlin propaganda. He believes that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was legal and Kyiv is guilty of ethnic cleansing of Russians.

Kovalik's books are masterpieces of literature.....when viewed through the lens of fiction and propaganda. If Sinn Fein politicians were looking for geopolitical insights then I'd suggest they will get more enlightenment from the Harry Potter series.

Most worrying though is the frequency of Kovalik's trips to Russia and occupied 🇺🇦 in 2022/2023. In an article dated July 2023, Kovalik confirms that he has visited Russia three times, visited occupied Ukraine twice in just 8 months and supports the Donetsk Peoples Republic.

It turns out that Kovalik is a frequent visitor to Belfast and the James Connolly Visitor Centre where no doubt you can find copies of Kovalik's books in their library. Kovalik proclaims that if he "needed to go on the run", he'd "find a home in West Belfast".

Why did Kovalik visit Ireland a few weeks after visiting Russia and the occupied Ukraine? And why was he warmly welcomed in Belfast? Sinn Fein suggested to the Irish Independent that they were reading too much into it. Maybe Sinn Fein doesn't pay any heed to Kovalik's lies.
8/10 Image
At least one Sinn Fein TD, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, read Kovalik's articles with interest. I note that particular article by Kovalik in the Huff Post about the Colombian peace process doesn't appear to be Kremlin related but it does show that Sinn Fein take Kovalik seriously.
9/10 Image
Although Sinn Fein is adamant that they support Ukraine and condemn Russia's invasion, it's interesting to note Sinn Fein's poor voting record in the EU Parliament on Russia, Ukraine and even Hamas. In this context, does meeting Dan Kovalik begin to make more sense?

Catherine Connolly has one major goal as Irish President - to keep the Triple Lock in place. This is how she will attempt to achieve it 🧵

The Triple Lock prevents Ireland deploying troops abroad without a UN mandate & effectively prevents Ireland joining NATO.

1/11 Image
There is an assumption that as President, Catherine Connolly must sign off on legislative Bills approved by the government and the Dáil. When the Irish government bring forward legislation to reform the Triple Lock, Connolly will likely precipitate a constitutional crisis!

2/11 Image
Connolly has only limited legal options. Under Article 26 of the constitution, she may refer a Bill to the Supreme Court to determine whether any part of it is repugnant to the Constitution. This route is unlikely to succeed, only delaying legislation.

Something doesn't make sense about Iran's use of proxies in Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen to attack Israel on October 7th 2023🧵

Iran has been trying to avoid a direct war with Israel since Oct 2023 so what did Iran stand to gain from coordinating it's proxies to attack Israel?

1/20 Image
Was it for Russia's benefit? Russia is regarded as the main benefactor from the Hamas attack on Israel in Oct, 2023. Hezbollah & the Houthis also attacked Israel in a limited manner.

"For Russia's benefit" doesn't fully explain why Iran risked its own security though.

2/20 Image
Hamas in Gaza didn't gain from the Oct 7th attacks. Their leadership has been eliminated and Gaza lies in ruins. Hezbollah in Lebanon was neutralized and their leader, Nasrallah, eliminated so no benefit for them either. Only the Houthis in Yemen survive largely intact!

I have to applaud the Irish vatnik community and their brothers in hamasnik community. You won! The Irish government is finally bowing to the constant pressure that you exerted. We're getting a squadron of modern fighter jets! I hug you and kiss you for your efforts 🫂

1/4 Image
It all started when the vatnik geniuses over at the Ditch started seeing visions of Israeli weapons being transported over Irish air space from the US. There was nothing Ireland could do about it given that we have no jets capable of air interception.

Irish vatniks across the country jumped on the bandwagon and began campaigning for the Irish government to do something about it the Israel bound flights.

The grand tour of Vatnik Ireland part 9 🧵

On 6th Oct 2024, The Times revealed that Russian Intelligence used a honeytrap operation to recruit an Irish politician - alias "Cobalt" - who still has not been named publicly. A main suspect's name circulates in private circles.

1/23 Image
The Irish public was initially confused - The Times story indicated that Cobalt offered to connect the Russians with Loyalist paramilitaries in Northern Ireland during Brexit talks. It didn't make sense. No Irish politician had connections to paramilitaries loyal to the UK.

2/23 Image
To demonstrate how seriously Irish politicians take national security, members of the Seanad (upper house of the Irish parliament) broke into laughter as they declared they were not the spy, one by one. Was the story a joke?

Some members remained suspiciously silent 🤔

How “from Vladivostok to Dublin” became a central mantra of Russian fascism 🧵

It might come as a surprise to 🇮🇪 citizens to discover that 🇮🇪 features explicitly and frequently in Alexander Dugin's book "Foundations of Geopolitics" which influenced Kremlin strategy.

1/11 Image
I doubt many in 🇮🇪 have heard of Alexander Dugin. Some may have first heard of him in Aug 2022 when his daughter, Darya, was killed in a car bomb in Moscow. Alexander is thought to have been the target but he travelled in a separate car and arrived at the scene soon after.

2/11 Image
John Dunlop wrote "There probably has not been another book published in Russia during the post-communist period that exerted an influence on Russian military and statist foreign policy elites comparable to Dugin's 1997 neo-fascist treatise, Foundations of Geopolitics"

Why are elements of the Republican party aligning with Putin’s Russia? 🧵

The common assumption is that Trump is to blame but there is another figure who can shed light on the shared interests of the Kremlin and sections of the Republican party. Rex Tillerson.

1/25 Image
Rex Tillerson served under Trump as the United States Secretary of State from 2017-18. He was fired via Twitter by Trump after only a year in the position. It was widely reported that Tillerson referred to Trump as a "moron" in a meeting with aides in July 2017.

Before that, Tillerson served as the CEO of ExxonMobil from 2006-16. ExxonMobil is the largest oil and gas company in the USA and the 8th largest company globally by revenue. It has an international footprint and as CEO, Tillerson formed relationships with world leaders.
