9 prominent Iranian political prisoners write a letter denouncing Israel’s “massacre of the people in Gaza” & calling for solidarity with Palestinians.
They say Iran’s “Women, Life, Freedom” movement must oppose war & oppression in any form.
2/ The prisoners say, “The monster of indifference will be the Achilles’ heel of our revolutionary movement.” They warn that ignoring the suffering of others will only strengthen ruling forces & make change impossible. They urge Iranians to stand with the Palestinian people.
3/ They also slam some members of the Iranian opposition who seek "democracy" through foreign intervention.
4/ They say, “These people are mainly looking for their share after the complete destruction of society’s infrastructure due to Western military attacks, as if they have learned nothing from the past two decades in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
5/ They say that in the height of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, these people only sought the support of Israel and the West, and in the current war, “they only serve them.”
6/ They call for Iran’s opposition movement to “link the struggle against oppression, exploitation, and discrimination with the struggle against war and warmongering.”
7/ They say “women, life, freedom,” means “supporting human dignity, and opposing discrimination and apartheid in any form, and relying on this slogan to confront religious fundamentalism in any form, whether Hamas or Israel.”
8/ They say that the real divide in the world is between reactionary, militaristic, and oppressive forces on one side, and “progressive social, labor, women’s movements, and the desire for freedom and equality on the other.”
9/ They say that Israel and the Islamic Republic are on the same side of this divide, and that the people of Iran and Palestine are on the opposite side.
10/ The signers of the letter are prominent Iranian political prisoners Anisha Asadollahi, Golrokh Iraee, Reza Shahabi, Arash Johari, Kivan Mehrtadi, Mehran Raouf, Fouad Fathi, Mazyar Seydnejad, Omid Massir.
They are all serving prison sentences for their activism & dissent.

From behind bars, Hassan Saeedi, an Iranian labor activist, speaks out for peace & justice in Palestine. He urges an immediate halt to the Gaza war & the Israeli occupation. He also coveys the support of a major independent labor union in Iran.
2/ Saeedi, who is being imprisoned in Tehran's notorious Evin prison for his labor activism, says that Iran's labor movement "has always been and will continue to be a defender of workers, the oppressed, and the underprivileged people in the world."
3/ Saeedi says that the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran & Suburbs Bus Company, a large independent labor union in Iran, calls for an "immediate cessation of the killing of civilians, an immediate ceasefire, the end of the war..."
🚨 Iran’s FM Abdollahian warns of potential “preemptive action” by Iran & its allies in the “coming hours” in the region to counter Israel’s attacks on Gaza. This is a serious statement that signals a real possibility of Iran and/or Hezbollah joining the war against Israel.>>>
Abdollahian says, “resistance leaders will not allow the Zionist regime to take any action it wants in Gaza & then leave Gaza & go to other resistance spheres."
In other words, he's saying Israel will target Iran & its allies after Gaza, and that it is better to confront it now.
He also invokes Israel's use phosphorus bombs in Gaza & appears to make a case to the Iranian public for preemptive military action: “Today, if we do not defend Gaza, tomorrow we will have to face these bombs in children’s hospitals in our own cities.”
2/ Criticism of the deal intensified in recent days after the deadly attack on Israel by Hamas.
Although US intelligence sources have downplayed Iran’s direct involvement in the attack, Biden faced pressure from hawks in both parties to abandon the deal.
3/ The unwritten deal involved swapping prisoners, unfreezing $6 billion of Iranian funds for humanitarian aid, and limiting Iran’s uranium enrichment to 60%, its stockpile of this material, and attacks on US interests in the region by its allies.

🧵The Saudi foreign minister's visit to Iran marks a historic moment in the long-standing rivalry between the two regional powers. But what does it mean for the US?
The US stands to benefit & better secure its regional interests by recalibrating its approach to the Middle East⏩
2/ Under Trump, the US reversed course on Obama’s diplomatic approach and adopted a “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran that reneged on the nuclear deal, imposed crippling sanctions, and increased political and military backing to Saudi Arabia and Israel.
3/ This strategy aimed to coerce Iran into surrendering to far-reaching US demands and reducing its regional influence, but it backfired by provoking Iran to restart its nuclear activities, intensify its proxy wars, and attack US allies and assets.
