So here's the thing, pre-sars2 children would on average get between 6 and 8 respiratory infections a year. Let's say each infection takes 7 days to get over (it's actually more than that for some). That's 42 to 56 days sick a year. COVID comes along & adds 2 more events.
Now that's between 56 & 70 days sick a year. All of that is assuming that covid doesn't actually have any impact on the immune system, which we know with absolute certainty that it does.

Maybe a bunch of those days before the kids were only a little bit sick, so we didn't
really pay much attention because they were able to do things while they were sick thanks to a healthy immune system.

Add in a little bit of immune system impairment & now you have forums of parents wondering why their kids are sick all the time.
It doesn't have to be HIV level immune system impairment. Even small things can have noticeable impacts.
Of course the story is even more complicated because there's things like co-infections other pathogens etc. Also important to understand that the immune system has many parts and some of them respond without necessarily making you feel bad
and other parts definitely make you feel like garbage. So if one part is impaired or not quite functioning properly another part may respond more strongly. It's a complicated picture which is why it's probably going to take a long time to actually sort out
but it doesn't take a huge leap to understand why parents are baffled at the amount their children are sick.
But again the take-home message here is we don't have to do this. We've proven over and over that we can make a difference.

We are clever apes for a reason, let's actually be clever. Image

So I've been scouring the literature looking for any documented incidents of "immunity debt" among astronauts that have stayed on the ISS. This is a extremely well studied and monitored population. Surprise!!! There isn't anything described in the literature
that would indicate anything like "immunity debt", as a matter of fact what is described is an increase in virus reactivation due to immune dysregulation from stressors like microgravity and radiation.

sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
But there is absolutely nothing described as anything resembling "immunity debt" in what is likely the most studied population on Earth.

One of the things that I think about often is what is the actual scientific case for allowing this virus to circulate completely unchecked within human populations?
I mean there's been a few hypotheses that have pretty much all been debunked. Continuous circulation has not brought about an end to death and disability. Continuous circulation has not brought about a reduction in mutation.

What is the scientific basis for promoting it?
I mean if you get out of the Twitter trollbot replies and into the real world of serious people, what is the actual case for allowing continuous unmitigated circulation? Absolutely every metric that I look at & every study that I read shows this to be a very bleak future.

So as everyone reads about these strange TB outbreaks, guess what cell is the primary responder to TB?

nature.com/articles/s4159…
Here I'll give you another hint. Bonus points if you look at the list in the upper corner & look up how many of those cells are directly impacted by SARS2 infections. Image
More bonus points if you dig a little deeper & have a look at which cells play a significant role in both the response to TB & RSV.

Some infectious disease doctor a couple of weeks ago posted something along the lines of people that are still taking precautions against covid just can't adjust to the new reality. I like to chew on things for a while & he is actually partly correct, but not in the way that he
was indicating. It's not the new reality of having constantly a circulating disabling and deadly disease that I can't adjust to. As a matter of fact I've made lots of adjustments. What I can't adjust to is the callousness and willingness to disregard hardship from professions
that I previously regarded as compassionate that I'm having a hard time adjusting to. The disregard and reframing of reality to suit a narrative that makes cruelty seem rational. It's taken me a long time to accept the casual cruelty and the

I'm honestly baffled that people can't connect the dots between constant sickness & not masking. Wearing a mask sparks all sorts of conversations. Overheard a pretty strange one this morning between 2 people that are currently ill caused by seeing my mask.
If you work in a public facing position, you are going to be sick the maximum amount possible for your body if you don't do something to prevent it. It really is that simple.
And that doesn't necessarily mean every 4-6 months. There are multiple variants circulating at any given time & depending on your individual immune response, you could be getting ill even more frequently than that. This isn't rocket science.

It's pretty clear that there was a deliberate shift from protecting citizens to on boarding a new life shortening disease. The only real debate is why.
The shocking part is that people basically put up zero resistance. They happily danced to a foreshortened lifespan with much higher rates of disease & disability.
Highly educated, highly intelligent people ... zero resistance to lie after lie after lie.
