Please don’t look away: Republicans are currently waging the *most* sustained, intense, & targeted war on disenfranchising Gen Z-ers from voting in 2024 that I have *ever* seen before. This is their new Jim Crow & we all must be alarmed & start giving this the attention it needs.

Thread detailing this—This level of voter suppression isn’t new. We’ve seen the GOP target Blacks, Hispanics, & other minority groups. But ever since 2020–especially 2022–things have taken on a new form. And that means targeting young voters specifically…

Former WI Gov. Scott Walker said on Fox,, “Young people are the issue” and that Republicans must “turn it around if we’re going to win again.” BUT here’s the rub: “turning it around” in their minds doesn’t mean meeting us where we are…it means suppressing our vote. Hoo boy…

Earlier this year, we even learned that Cleta Michelle, the far-right lawyer, is building a concerted, targeted effort to disenfranchise millions of young voters. Why? Because it’s the only chance “for any candidate other than a leftist to have a chance to WIN in 2024”….

And we are now seeing that strategy playing out in Republican state legislatures like I’ve never seen before. Let’s start with Texas: Republicans have already introduced a bill that would ban ALL polling locations on college campuses if passed. Voter suppression in broad daylight

Let’s turn to New Hampshire: Republicans have introduced a bill that would prohibit college students who pay out-of-state tuition from voting in elections—regardless of how long they’d lived in NH for college. So, they are telling students to go BACK HOME to vote. Nuts & insane.

Zooming out: The Voting Rights Lab has done a study that shows there is pending legislation introduced by Republicans in AT LEAST 15 states that would make it harder or even illegal to use student IDs to vote in elections. This isn’t democracy. This is fascism. Period.

The good news in all of this—if there is any—is that young people & Gen Z have consistently shown that they will defy Republicans attempts to silence us. We’ve shown up. We’ve turned out. We’ve made them find out. But this isn’t going away any time soon & we must all take action.

At every moment you get, register a young person to vote. Talk to them about the issues of the day. Elevate this story on your timelines. And to cable news and traditional media: I implore you, as a young person & someone who cares about our democracy, to shine a light on this.

Elections are won on the margins. And Republicans know this, which is why they are engaging in a sustained, concerted, targeted effort to suppress young people from voting. We must expose them for it & give this the attention it needs. Or we may not have a democracy in 2024. /END
