Remember militaries are 80-90% logistics, backend, admin, technicians. The US army is only 4 PERCENT infantry. 20-25k out of 485k.
5k front line fighters wounded out a total reg and called up reserve military of 470k is somewhere between 10 and 20% of all frontline fighters Israel has, and maybe 25-35% of fighters they can spare for in the South, Given they have a war brewing in the North with Hezbollah, have to keep the Golan garrisoned, have to maintain the West Bank to a dull roar, and have to have some in reserve as a check against all their neighbors who they've been at war with in the past 50 years.
Napoleon and Hitler took years to break their armies with misguided adventures like this.... Bibi's done it in 2 months.
And Hamas can probably survive in those tunnels for atleast 6-8 more. I'm not joking 30k Austrians held out in the fortress of Mantua for 7 months in 1796 with no refrigeration, no preservatives, no drying, no canning, surviving off their horses, boots and rats... more recently the Vietnamese held out in the tunnels of Cu Chi for 5+ years whilst 20-100x the tonnage of bombs were dropped on them.
There's a lot of prophesies and curses to do with Israel. A great Rabbi-Prophet once famously once told Netanyahu he'd be the last president of Israel, that after him would come the Messiah...there's also the Prophesy of the 8th decade that no Jewish State has survived 80 years and Israel therefore will fall by 2028... whilst other's have interpreted this as as the State must be "complete" or "perfected" in it's borders or else it will fall.
To the extent Netanyahu's coalition of religious fundamentalists and Militant Settlers believe this, they might have just made those prophesies self-fulfilling

Ynet withdrew it hours later and now only mentions the 2000 rendered permanently disabled, but not the 5000 total wounded, The Israeli commenters are calling bull
