BREAKING: Egypt & Mauritania have invoked UNGA Res 377 - Uniting for Peace - to address Gaza genocide.
Res.377 states that if UN Security Council, due to lack of unanimity of permanent 5 members, fails to exercise its primary responsibility to act to maintain intnl peace & security, the GA can promptly address the issue.
Emergency session set for Tues. Dec.12 #CeaseFirelnGazaNOW
To answer some questions I saw and provide a bit more context, 1) No, the US cannot veto this. It can vote against it, but no country has veto power in the General Assembly. The US can, however, use bullying tactics such as threatening aid to certain countries, in order to pressure them to vote against the resolution.
2) Will this do anything? UN Res. 377 was originally introduced by the US in 1950 as a way of circumventing Soviet veto re Korean War. It has the potential to be effective, BUT the members have to agree on collective action. Although unlikely, Res.377 even allows member states to agree on use of military force. However, text of the resolution to be voted on, posted by @Raminho does not give any indication that measures to compel compliance have or are being contemplated.
3) Remember, on Nov 15, the UNSC (by a vote of 12-0) passed a binding resolution for extended humanitarian pauses. Israel immediately condemned it and declared it was not going to abide. No actions have been taken to compel Israel to abide, just like no actions have been taken to compel Israel to abide by the many UNSC resolutions that it stands in violation of.
4) The resolution calls for immediate, unconditional release of hostages but fails to call for the release of Palestinian hostages held by Israel.

What did your “thorough review of the facts” entail @PhxChildrens? Because it looks like you just obeyed commands of a well-known smear group instead of considering: 1. Nothing in Fidaa’s post was directed at Jews, period.
2. Fidaa’s comments were directed at a state engaged in the relentless bombing of her family and friends, killing 247 people in just 11 days last month, 67 of them children. 3. That onslaught was the 4th large-scale military assault on Gaza in 12 years.
4. In addition to the bombing, Israel has made Gaza the world’s largest open-air prison, imposing a 15-year + suffocating closure on 2 million people that has decimated Gaza’s economy and infrastructure and, according to the UN, has made Gaza “unlivable.”
Mainstream media has spent days reporting on Israeli coalition talks without mentioning that the man slated to be new PM - Naftali Bennett - has bragged about "kill[ing] lots of Arabs"; and the #2 in Bennett's party - Ayalet Shaked - has called for genocide against Palestinians;
Referring to the above as "conservative" or "hardline" is normalizing Israeli apartheid & violence against Palestinians. There should be no coverage that doesn't mention & condemn the violent racism and ethno-national-religious supremacy embodied by Bennett and his party.
Don't applaud an Arab/Muslim party in the coalition without mentioning that one of the major obstacles to forming the coalition was the fact that the Jewish Israeli parties objected to the thought of an Arab party in the coalition.

For anyone justifying Israel's murderous actions with "Israel has a right to defend itself":
1. Israel is not engaged in self-defense. Israel has imposed a punishing and deadly closure on Gaza for 15 years. This is collective punishment, illegal.
2. The Gaza closure, sometimes called "blockade" or "siege" is equivalent to an act of war. However, because Israel is the occupying power in Gaza and, therefore, legally responsible for the health and well-being of the population, we don't use the war paradigm.
3. Instead, this is classified as collective punishment & persecution of the people of Gaza. The first is a war crime, the second is a crime against humanity.
