Before Dogecoin, its founder - @BillyM2k - had another project.

A coin and its blockchain abandoned since 2014.

Until now 🧵⤵️ Image
Last week, on December 5th, it was Dogecoin's 10th birthday and my friend @capag777 saw Billy's old post from 2013 and reached out to me. Image
I was excited, and we immediately began hunting for information to see if we could find it.

We landed on the Bitcoin Talk post announcing BELLS on November 28, 2013 - just eight days before Billy and Jackson Palmer launched Dogecoin. Image
Browsing the forum, we could see very quickly that users abandoned BELLS for DOGE once DOGE took off.

We also found a BELLS community fork in March of 2014, which looks like it died in 2021.

Plus an ETH version.

But the original BELLS blockchain died in late 2014. Image
I reached out to uber dev @lukewrightmain to see if we could connect some nodes with the original BELLS blockchain, or at least figure out how to start it up again.

Luke's a genius, and about 2 hours later... Image
..he was able to get the original code working!

BELLS was running for the first time since 2014. Image
It's been a little bumpy over the last week, but we think that we've got BELLS fully operational 🥳

So here are instructions to start mining your own $BEL tokens.

It's pretty easy.

Total setup time ~10 minutes 👇
🔔Mining rewards are RaNDoM, so you can get lucky and mine a block with up to 10,000 coins🔥🚀

In the past week, we've mined way less than 1% of the supply and the first halving is less than 90 days away 😃

PLUS I'm giving away a ton of coins, so skip to the end to get some.👇
⚠️DISCLAIMER - everything you do from here is AT YOUR OWN RISK. I expect $BEL to be a fun keepsake, but it could die again or be worthless. I've tried to provide accurate information here, but I make mistakes, and things - such as the software for BELLS - I don't control...
..and may have bugs or viruses that could cause damage and loss.

🚨You should NOT run this software on a machine with access to personal information or crypto assets, as it could contain viruses that steal your stuff🚨

I'm using an old laptop, and I suggest you do the same.
Step 1 - Open this link and download the .zip file to your computer.

drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Jd8w…
Image
Step 2 - Open the download and click on the "bells-qt" file.

This will ask you to extract the file - click yes.

This will open a new folder. Image
Step 3 - In the new folder, click "bells-qt"

Note: Your computer may block the file from running. If this happens, you may need to click "more info" and then click "run anyway" Image
Step 4 - The BELLS wallet and miner have now loaded, but you will see the "Out of sync" notice.

Let's fix that 👇 Image
Step 5 - You need to get to this location on your PC

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Bells

The "{username}" is your username.

An easy way to get there is to click on "This PC" then "Windows (C)" then the "Users" folder. Image
Step 6 - You probably won't see the "AppData" folder, so click "View" then click "Show" and then select both "Hidden items" & "File name extensions"

That will expose the "AppData" folder. Image
Step 7 - Click "AppData" Image
Step 8 - Click "Roaming" Image
Step 9 - Click "Bells" Image
Step 10 - Right-click to bring up the options and select "New" and then click "Text Document" Image
Step 11 - Enter this name as the title of the text document:

bells.conf

Then hit enter. Image
Step 11 - Open the "bells.conf" text document

Now paste this text into the document and save it.

dns=1
irc=1
listen=1
dnsseed=1
daemon=1
server=1
rpcport=19918
rpcuser=XXXX
rpcpassword=XXXX Image
⚠️Change the "XXXX" in the text to a user & password that only you know. Do NOT share this with anyone, as it would allow them to take your coins.⚠️
Step 12 - Check your connection to the BELLS network by hovering over the network icon.

If you don't see any active connections, try closing down and restarting the BELLS program. Image
Step 13 - Let's start mining for some $BEL⛏️

Click on the "Mining" button. Image
Step 14 - Change the "Threads" to 2 and then click "Start Mining" Image
You'll see that it says, "Solo mining started"

Congrats! You're on your way to mining $BEL🔥 Image
Step 15 - Click on the Windows search bar and type "Task" then click on the "Task Manager" Image
Step 16 - Click the "Details" tab, then RIGHT-CLICK on "bells-qt.exe" and select "Set affinity" Image
Step 17 - Un-check the boxes so that you only have two (2) processors selected. Then click "Ok"

Note: CPU 0 is a processor.

⚠️This is important as mining can potentially burn out your computer. Image
Now click on the "Transactions" tab and you'll start to see the mined $BEL coins as they come into your wallet.

Note that it takes a while for mined coins to show up as a balance in the "Overview" tab as a certain number of blocks have to clear first.
I hope you're as excited about BELLS as I am👊

🚨Drop your BELLS wallet address in the comments, and I'll send out a bunch 👇

I'd appreciate a Like/Repost the quote below to help spread the word on BELLS 🔔 and maybe it'll be something really cool in another 10 years!

UPDATE: Day 6 of the #BELLSblockchain 🔔

@_Bellscoin posted an updated estimate of the distribution of $BEL coin.

How many years will it take for all coins to be mined?

I guarantee you're not going to believe the answer 👇
Crypto YouTuber @kyle_chasse did a fun segment on BELLS. I chopped the clip here. Well worth a view.

Thanks for the shoutout Kyle 🙏
Brilliant dev @belscan_ dug into the current BELLS mining & pools situation. If you're thinking of mining, this is a must-read 📖

🚨You don't "own" your @X username 🚨

Last week, this post blew up because it highlighted a terrifying part of social media platforms - their ability to remove your usernames at will.

How can you protect yourself?
👇

1/11 Image
This shocked many users as they falsely believed they would be due some compensation if their username was taken from them. Kind of like eminent domain, but for usernames.

Unfortunately, the terms and conditions for the platforms enable them to remove usernames at will.

2/11
As someone who's helped grow large accounts, I've seen it happen repeatedly. Where someone had a great username and grew a brand around it only to have it taken by the platform.

And it's not just X - TikTok and Instagram do it too.

But there's hope! 👇

Ethscriptions may be the fastest adoption of a protocol ever.

If you don't know what Ethscriptions are, I got you 🧵👇

1/9
Ethscriptions are on-chain NFTs created by @dumbnamenumbers who's passionate about making Ethereum less expensive and easier for the average user.

How inexpensive?

The average Ethscription costs less than $1 to inscribe.💰

2/9
Here's a quick video to walk you through inscribing one.

I encourage you to try it out ✅

It also shows you how to send your Ethscription to an @EmblemVault.

This step is ONLY necessary if you want to trade your Ethscription on Opensea.

😈What are Cursed Ordinals, and why should you care?

I've got the question enough that I figured it was time for a quick thread. 45-second read.
👇

1/11 Image
Why should you care?

If you believe that Ordinals will impact Bitcoin and the world, Cursed Ordinals represent a very interesting part of Ordinal's history when the protocol was new and changing.

2/11 Image
What are they?

Cursed Ordinals - or Cursed Inscriptions - are Ordinals that weren't originally counted by the ord indexer. So they originally didn't show up in wallets on marketplaces.

How-to mint a SRC-20 🎯

The Bitcoin Stamps Telegram group is taking off, so I am making a quick thread to ensure you get the SRC-20 you want.
👇
This is the indexer where you can check the minting progress for each SRC-20

My recommendation would be NOT to mint any that are getting close to 100% minted because there's a good chance they will mint out before your order finalizes.

👉stampsrc.github.io Image
Here is the minting page

✅ Select "Mint"
✅ Enter the "Tick" exactly as it appears in the indexer
✅ Enter the "Lim" in the "Amount" box

What's a Bitcoin Stamp?

How to mint?

How to buy?

How to sell?

I've been pinged enough that it's time for a quick thread to get into the details.

High level: Bitcoin Stamps are the most permanent NFTs in the world🌎

The details 👇 Image
Stamps are a protocol created by @mikeinspace, which stores NFTs directly on Bitcoin.

Stamps have two key features:
1. Unprunable - Stamps are very difficult to remove from Bitcoin
2. Stamps can be issued 1 of 1's OR 1 of many (i.e. a series) Image
What makes Stamps permanent?

Because the image data is stored 100% on the Bitcoin blockchain.

As long as Bitcoin exists, so will Bitcoin Stamps.

This is an excellent thread by @trustmachinesco digging into what makes it work.
