There is a serious weather emergency playing out right now in Far North Queensland as the region continues to be impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper. There is still more rain to come.

Some communities have received up to 600mm of rain in the past day.

More than 10,000 Homes are without power. Thank you to Ergon workers for their hard work over the last few days, when it is safe to do so they will reconnect power.

Roads have been cut off, with some bridges damaged beyond use. Remember, if it’s flooded forget it.

We’ve heard reports of people swimming in floodwaters, you’re putting yourself and our emergency workers at risk. Stay out of floodwaters.

Keep clear of creeks and waterways, they are still subject to flash flooding. And please stay off the roads as much as possible.

Queenslanders are connected to our land and our environment, it’s where we draw our strengths from.

Over the last 200 years we’ve become an energy superpower. Our mineral resources have powered our own development, and much of the world’s. Communities up and down Queensland own that, and it is a source of great pride.

But we know that the world’s appetites have shifted.
We know we need to shift too. Change is never easy, but it’s critical.

That’s why, our government, over the past decade has carefully made significant steps to transform our economy into one that can embrace the enormous opportunity of more sustainable global economy.
