.@SNAPNetwork , we see mostly Roman Catholic abuse cases in the trophy case on Lathrop Group's investigations page.

Do y'all have any thoughts for the @IHOPKC people who are being asked to trust @EricVolz that this is a trauma-informed investigation?

lathropgpm.com/services-pract…
The reason I'm asking, @IHOPKC folk, is that, in addition to boasting about how great Lathrop's investigations are for protecting religious institutions, the trophies in the case are mostly Roman Catholic abuse cases, which means @SNAPNetwork would have likely been involved.
@ihopkc @SNAPNetwork .@SNAPNetwork has been supporting survivors of institutional sexual abuse since 1988 & knows a thing or two about what it looks like when ministries mishandle abuse allegations & what helpful responses would look like.

SNAP is an independent, peer network of survivors of institutional sexual abuse and their supporters who work to: Support Survivors We support survivors through conversations, email and general support with our hotline. We host support groups for survivors nationwide. We have over a hundred volunteer local SNAP leaders who provide day to day and one on one support for those in need. We help provide references and links to resources to enable survivors to thrive. Protect Children We advocate for stronger laws to protect children and the vulnerable. We advocate for reform of statute of li...
@ihopkc @SNAPNetwork My assumption is not that Lathrop Group is all evil, all the time with their investigations, but also that if they list cases like this as selling points for prospective clients on their Investigations page, they are pretty okay with doing what, in my opinion, is evil stuff. Obtained a complete dismissal of a private high school and an affiliated diocese in an action involving a volunteer coach who sexually assaulted a member of the girls’ softball team. A prompt and thorough investigation by our team allowed the client to assess its liability risks and whether its policies had been followed. The trial court granted motions arguing there was no duty to protect the plaintiff from sexual assaults that were unrelated to any school activity and occurred on private property.
@ihopkc @SNAPNetwork Let's take a look at this, case, shall we?

The survivor has spoken to the press.

Her abuser, who groomed her at a Catholic school in Sacramento, was convicted went to jail.

sacbee.com/news/local/edu…
@ihopkc @SNAPNetwork What techniques did Lathrop Group, the firm that @IHOPKC is asking survivors of #MikeBickle to trust with the abuse investigation, use to "obtained a complete dismissal" of a civil case filed by the victim on behalf of their client, @saccatholic ?

Lathrop Group, representing @saccatholic , intimidated the sexual assault survivor by trying to make her pay $7,300 in legal fees when she had to dismiss her civil case for technical reasons with the intention of refiling.

jgjrlaw.com/blog/2019/apri…
WHY: In what’s being called “an outrageous move to silence abuse victims,” lawyers for Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto have obtained a court order allowing them to collect $7,300 from a 22-year-old woman who was molested by a former softball coach when she was 15 years old. The rationale: Her civil childhood sexual abuse lawsuit against school and church officials was voluntarily withdrawn. But there’s no doubt she was victimized and her former softball coach is responsible, SNAP says, because it was her report and testimony that landed the perpetrator in jail. Starting in 2013, Bailey Boon...
@saccatholic Here is what the O.G. Armchair Investigators, @SNAPNetwork (hats off in respect, baby @ihopkc Armchair Investigators ) had to say about Lathrop, the called "Lathrop & Gage." Chad E. Blomberg of the Kansas City-based Lathrop & Gage (816 292 2000) represents Bishop Soto and the school. The law firm has 300 lawyers in ten offices across the US. SNAP says the company has long used “scorched earth” tactics against victims. Stephen Greene, who is Bishop Soto’s local counsel, claims that Soto isn’t seeking money from Bailey. He blames the church insurer. SNAP doesn’t believe this, noting that Soto chose to hire Lathrop & Gage and picked the insurer. SNAP stresses that the bishop could ‘reverse this meanness’ if he wanted. Bailey’s attorney and SNAP are both convinc...
.@SNAPNetwork said that Lathrop "has long used 'scorched-earth' tactics against victims."

Which sounds like the firm is okay with evil as an ethos, in my humble Armchair Investigator opinion. Chad E. Blomberg of the Kansas City-based Lathrop & Gage (816 292 2000) represents Bishop Soto and the school. The law firm has 300 lawyers in ten offices across the US. @SNAPNetwork The local counsel for @saccatholic did the usual "There there, now" Reasonable Man demurrals, which @EricVolz could learn from if he wanted to make his smarmy sound more intelligent, but @SNAPNetwork pointed out bullying tactics that the slick rhetoric was trying to cover. @SNAPNetwork @saccatholic @EricVolz The attorney for the victim, who was, along with another 15 year old girl, groomed & sexually assaulted by her softball coach at a school in @saccatholic before he was convicted, pointed out that the Lathrop strategy was kinda evil, actually

@ihopkc, is Lathrop still your firm? Bailey’s attorney and SNAP are both convinced the attempt to make her pay is “nothing more than a threat, designed to scare her and other wounded victims, into keeping quiet thus enabling more predators to hurt more kids.” “This is shameful,” said attorney Joseph C. George, Ph.D. “In my 33 years of representing child sex abuse survivors, I have never seen any defendant try to silence a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by intimidating them with a cost bill.”
@SNAPNetwork @saccatholic @EricVolz @ihopkc Anyway, that's gross, isn't it? But you might say, "Silly Heather, that's a case in which Lathrop was representing @Saccatholic in civil litigation," & I would say

"Sure, but evil is an acceptable ethos here for the firm, & this is on the trophy case on the INVESTIGATION page." Obtained a complete dismissal of a private high school and an affiliated diocese in an action involving a volunteer coach who sexually assaulted a member of the girls’ softball team. A prompt and thorough investigation by our team allowed the client to assess its liability risks and whether its policies had been followed. The trial court granted motions arguing there was no duty to protect the plaintiff from sexual assaults that were unrelated to any school activity and occurred on private property.
Which could mean that Lathrop was also doing an investigation in addition to representing @Saccatholic in civil litigation, or it could just mean the nasty tactic by Lathrop's finest was possibly part of a buffet of scorched-earth victim intimidation tactics that are Lathrop OK'd Then, lawyers for the diocese and school they said they would not try to collect money from Bailey if she agreed to stay silent and promise to not re-file her lawsuit. When she refused, Soto’s lawyer sought and obtained the roughly $7,300 judgment (called a “Memorandum of Costs”) against her on March 29, 2019. Chad E. @saccatholic Anyway, @IHOPKC, I can see why you were hesitant to name the firm that was conducting the investigation, because Armchair Investigators do know how to Google.

This is a skill I highly recommend, btw.

Try Googling "How to investigate church abuse."

This could help so much!
@saccatholic @ihopkc I am wondering, @IHOPKC, if this could be why @bozlawpa said this in his statement:
bozlawpa.com/news/statement…
In context of the above, I was quite surprised to receive an email on Friday, December 8th from yet another attorney from yet another law firm requesting to interview my client. At no time did they ever reach out to seek input from my client or any other reported victim regarding this process. Once again, they assumed that reported victims would participate in a supposed “independent” process that they had unilaterally determined. It was disheartening to many that we were right back at square one with IHOPKC engaging another law firm to conduct what it defined as an “independent investigati...
@saccatholic @ihopkc @bozlawpa Quoth @bozlawpa : ""Why would reported victims of sexual abuse and misconduct sit down with an attorney from a firm that represents churches in sexual abuse matters and then boasts about its successes?..."
@saccatholic @ihopkc @bozlawpa Continueth @Bozlaw "I have no doubt that this law firm well-represents organizational defendants in sexual abuse litigation. However, it cannot be all things to all people."
@saccatholic @ihopkc @bozlawpa @BozLaw Thusly @bozlawpa: "It cannot represent and defend institutional clients in such cases and then turn around and invite reported sexual abuse victims to meet with its attorneys and to trust them. It simply doesn’t work that way."
@saccatholic @ihopkc @bozlawpa @BozLaw And, you know, he kind of has a point, doesn't he @ihopkc ?

Gosh, we only covered one case in Lathrop Group's Trophy Case on their Investigations page.

There are so many more for Armchair Investigators to explore.

Let's all show IHOPKC what you can do with basic Google skills Image

Good job, @ihopkc on being as awful (while less competent) as Roman Catholics on church abuse response.

Meanwhile, you simultaneously managed to get owned by the SBC who released their full Letter of Engagement in a way that was, in fact, precedented.

Undisclosed on his resumé, the newly appointed Provincial Prosecutor for @The_ACNA trial of Bp. Ruch, Archdeacon Job Serebrov, attended St. Paul's House of Formation, a Greenhouse Movement institution, for a Certificate in Anglican Studies.

saintpaulshouseofformation.com x.com/monkofjustice/…“Having earned eight graduate degrees, my decision to pursue a certificate in Anglican Studies was carefully considered. I chose St. Paul’s because of its unparalleled breadth of subject matter, its expert and seasoned instruction, a readiness by the staff to address any questions that arise, and that very reasonable fee rate. Perhaps the most enjoyable and longest lasting benefit from this program is the friendship that developed between Fr. Stephen, Fr. Alex, Danny, and me. My prayer is to see St. Paul’s become the premiere certificate option for the ACNA as well as other GAFCON member Ch...
Who is St. Paul's for? Saint Paul’s House of Formation was designed by the Greenhouse Movement to equip Christian leaders while they are actively serving the church. Whether you’re lay or ordained, employed or volunteering, or still discerning where you fit best, all are welcome. We all long for God’s praise of Job to be true of us, that he “has spoken rightly about me.” (Job 42:7) St. Paul’s was intentionally crafted to help you do just that. It contains some of the most in-depth teachings you’ll find, while still remaining accessible and realistic. No matter how you found us, we would l...
This is concerning because Greenhouse, like the UMD, plays a major role in the case that the Ven. Serebrov is supposed to prosecute.

This affiliation should have been disclosed for the sake of transparency, even if St. Paul's is not accredited.

acnatoo.org/acna-witnesses…
Recall that one of the very dodgy & odd strategies of Ruch & co is to claim that the Greenhouse Movement, in which abuser Mark Rivera was a lay catechist, was not really under Bp Ruch's jurisdiction, despite being a deanery.

The rogue court member pursued this line of questioning OVER THE COURSE OF MORE THAN AN HOUR, according to Runyan.

Why wasn't this shut down immediately? Image
Will the Renegade Court member be allowed to continue on the court?

Will he or she be publicly identified?

Will their actions be independently investigated to determine where they accessed their information or what prompted their actions?
How will the "irreparable taint" that a practicing attorney with nearly five decades of experience determines was introduced be remedied by bringing on a new prosecutor?

In what way does this address Runyan's concerns?

Alan Runyan, the lead prosecutor in the @The_ACNA trial of Bishop Stewart Ruch of the Diocese of the Upper Midwest, has resigned.

Archbishop Steve Wood made the announcement over an email today:

mailchi.mp/anglicanchurch…
A reason was not given for Runyan's resignation just days into Ruch's trial, but I can't help but wonder if the ridiculous infographic conveniently redefining the understanding of a Bishop recently released by the Province at had anything to do with it.

The document magically redefines the role of the overseer as not having to oversee his diocese, which has very convenient implications for Ruch's defense.

Very little that @The_ACNA does to block abuse accountability surprises me, but the election of Barbara Gauthier of the Diocese of the Upper Midwest to the Executive Committee after her conduct on Stewart Ruch’s Bishop’s Council is shocking. Image

Barbara Gauthier, her husband, and fellow members of the UMD Bishop's Council demonized survivors & advocates & refused to hold Stewart Ruch accountable.

Ruch is now facing trial because his Bishop's Council would not discipline him. acnatoo.org/acna-witnesses…Image

@NathanBroo33288 @bethkiraly_ @ahailstone @morningstarmin Nathan, please exercise caution about this. ChatGPT does not assess source credibility reliably.

The section on Occult Freemasonry ties alone is based on the Taxil Hoax.

A mixture of true things mixed with insane lies is how these false prophets sucked people into NAR.
@NathanBroo33288 @bethkiraly_ @ahailstone @morningstarmin Taxil Hoax myths have been vomited up repeatedly since the 1890's by some of the same organizations listed in this "analysis." Evangelicals, fundamentalists, and charismatics keep returning to that vomit.
@NathanBroo33288 @bethkiraly_ @ahailstone @morningstarmin These kind of rabbit holes fuel spiritual bypassing. Instead of seeking credible sources that can help us reflect on how we got sucked into these things & can help us face the current dangers & repair the damage, they distract us with the illusion that We See The Hidden Knowledge

I just finished reading the @IHOPKC Firefly investigation report.

In any investigation, it's important to listen to participant feedback before we gauge its strengths & weaknesses.

Do they feel like their stories were faithfully represented?
I'm planning on sharing more thoughts during the next few days as I have time to digest & listen to the people who risked so much to share their stories & want to share their feedback.
However, I do have a couple of initial impressions now.

The report starts off strong. I was worried that we wouldn't get reader education, Holler helps the reader understand grooming dynamics. These are new concepts for many charismatics, so this education is essential.
