Reflecting on 2023, it has been a relatively big year for me. Seems quite a lot one could be proud of.
Personal growth has been significant, despite what some might think.
- Regaining cognitive cognitive processes from before systemic psychological trauma about a decade ago!
- Adopting a "post-autistic identity" independent of psychiatric categories.
- Genuine effort to engage with others views, being more respectful, humble, & kind. There is plenty of evidence of this in my emails, various DMs etc.
- Being assertive in setting boundaries, especially over those not treating me with dignity & respect.
- Standing up for right & wrong, e.g., what seems to be dodgy going on at Autscape's safeguarding. It seems not to have followed its own safeguarding policy.
- Continuing my critical engagement with PDA.
Despite the attacks I received for doing that, asserting my boundaries, & safeguarding issues at Autscape.
- Respecting my own limitations. Even with my rigid adherence for constant personal growth. One needs to accepts there are some things that can never be changed with reflection/ "intervention" etc. Afterall there is no "cure" for being autistic.
- Restarted tradition of gaining tattoos to mark important things which are personally important to me.
- "Peer review"- validation by others. This comes in many ways.
For example, a recent article replicating some aspects of my critique on PDA, such as pointing out PDA can go into a separate category distinct from autism!
frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
- Humbled by the enthusiatic response from "public" to the Monotropism Questionnaire. I am grateful for co-authors work in developing it. Still, it was originally my idea & I had substantial input into its development. Image
- Positive feedback I have been receiving for the present draft list of potential research topics for the Monotropism Questionnaire.

I am seeking feedback on present document & I have acted on most received suggestions:
docs.google.com/document/d/13K…
- @thinkingautism taking interest in @dudeimreading @KatWilliams123 & mine short article on "Profound Autism" being a risk of avoidable autistic deaths via diagnostic overshadowing of physical ill health issues:
thinkingautismguide.com/2023/09/grave-…
@KatWilliams123 - Conversation taking interest in a book chapter @DrAimeeGrant @KatWilliams123 @DjzemaLouiz & co-authored. Essay discussed how systemtically poorly treated autistics are in the UK:
theconversation.com/dehumanising-p…
@KatWilliams123 @DrAimeeGrant @DjzemaLouiz - How well the social model & autism project has done this year. With various anthologies, journal special issues progressing well. Incredibly grateful to @HBertilsdotter for taking over the project.
- Expertise increasingly recognised.
Highlights:
- Increasingly being asked to do peer reviews by journals I know. Lmao.
- An Equality Diversity Inclusion panel member for a quango.
- Project lead Frontiers in Education PDA special issue, example article:
frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
"Like anything else in the social sciences, it depends on how one defines & measures it.".

Appears by many metrics, I am doing at least alright! Need to continue with other areas & aspects about me I can-wish to change!

It is articles like this, which make me think I may, just may be valid-correct about my views on "#PDA Profile of ASD".
Article is open access
frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
"Investigating the borders of autism spectrum disorder: lessons from the former diagnosis of pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified"
Even if some disagree with my interpretation of the article, it is clear, that not everyone accepts that autism has expanded to include PDA. Which means people cannot blindly assume PDA is a "Profile of ASD".

@BettyBlue168 I do not have an agenda with the question. It is straight forward question, which one should be able to answer with some reflection on the topic.

There are likely to be problems with what you suggest.
@BettyBlue168 "neurodivergent people.", sense of kinship, "maladaptive" are subjective & culturally constructed terms for starters.

There are massive issues in how, there is no-one size fits all approach to what ND categories look like, interact socially etc

@missiles22 @AnnMemmott shared this below, it seems to have pertinent points to the safeguarding concerns at Autscape:
forbes.com/sites/drnancyd…
@missiles22 "ADHD is associated with “justice sensitivity”, to indicate that this is a negative behaviour leading to difficulties moving on from injustice and heightened emotions when things aren’t fair..."
@missiles22 "...Some authors write about “pathological altruism” in which an Autistic tendency to think logically through a crisis for the benefit of the whole, even when this causes harm to self, is lumped in with sociopathic justification for violence."

@Elysia_Sky Not always Katy, autistics can act the same way as non-autistics on the topic.

I have screenshots proving that of some other autistics attacking me, including name calling. For not understanding social cues. Ignoring it is part of my "autism" etc.
@Elysia_Sky It is attacking me over what seems a niche-vague concept to.

Some of those attacking me seem not to appreciate they were being ableist.
@Elysia_Sky It is interesting reflecting on the attacks I have suffered this week by some other autistics. I am mindful of work of Andy McDonnell with Controllability Beliefs Scale. In that people are less empathetic towards if they perceive the other person is deliberately doing something.

@R3n4lbar @milton_damian @WolfWithAutism So people who do not know me are making spurious claims about me. While those who do engage with me, would say the opposite. Image

@R3n4lbar @milton_damian @WolfWithAutism Example of me acting in good faith over a situation at LSBU which caused me to have a massive meltdown several weeks ago. On Tuesday in a meeting I respected other's perspective & asked that something be allowed to proceed, which others had stopped.

@WolfWithAutism @scrappapertiger @beccajiggens @VickiWistow @autimodo Frankly, even if I did ignore it, I do not see how it is any of their business.
1) Restating it is common for ND persons to ignore arbitrary constructed expectations for our own wellbeing & for reasonable adjustments.
@WolfWithAutism @scrappapertiger @beccajiggens @VickiWistow @autimodo 2) What I choose to spend my time & spoons is my own prerogative. I am struggling to balance all the demands I choose to accept as it is. Let alone arbitrary demands from other people.
