Ok listen up #LongCovid if y'all gonna keep posting about #HIV it would be really helpful to at least know some basic terms and more of the history than a few ten second clips from documentaries. Crash course here ⤵️
First, where it all began...
June 5, 1981
CDC published a report on 5 cases of rare pneumonia in San Francisco
I would just like to remind everyone who is so excited about reactivated EBV and CMV that those were the most common early presentations of people living with AIDS in the eighties.
both viruses were initially blamed. Also makes ng that list later was HHV6 (that harmless childhood virus that some MECFS advocates love to point to was ironically first isolated from patients with AIDS in the quest to find a cause).
HHV6 is actually a really fun one because almost everyone had it by the time they entered kindergaryen. It was a mild acute illness that your parents likely dont even recall specifically. What everyone forgot to tell you is it lives in your t cells. forever. integrated in dna
I have a literal acquired immune deficiency, yes actually the exact same issue best known for being caused by HIV, except mine was caused by SARS-coV-2. This is officially documented in my medical records and is being treated by a medical doctor.
🧵
The pandemic is not over. An estimated 1 in 30 have SARS-coV-2 in the united states right now, and half of them do not know it yet - but are still contagious.
Tuberculosis, mycoplasma pneumoniae, RSV, and influenza are also spread via aerosols, and are also currently at high levels in Houston and other communities throughout the nation and globally.
None of the SARS-coV-2 vaccines prevent infection or forward transmission. The jury's out on whether they prevent long covid, but its unlikely since many with long covid had mild or asymptomatic acute infections. 🧵
Many places are giving out the old vaccines to people who think they are getting the new one, which is going to skew the uptake numbers. 🧵
The moonshot social media campaign has included material mocking and stigmatizing bipoc, transgender, and hiv+ communities, sexualizing and objectifying women, and implying that only some deserve treatment - in line with their ridiculously low ask of <$50 per affected person.
As such, I am ashamed to be associated with it or the "long covid" community. I called my reps and let them know the moonshot is moonshit, asked them to investigate the NIH collaboration with patientled & solve me that squandered $1.5b already, and urged them to consider
the actionable points laid out in @LongCovidAP "Find A Cure For Long Covid" campaign. I also sent them a letter using the template on this handy link, and you can too.
