i do not and will not endorse a candidate that is an hiv minimizer/denialist no matter what he promises "us." and that is why i dont really consider this "my community." Neither my support nor my silence can be bought. Not for empty promises of vague focuses, nor even for guaranteed and badly needed funding. I DO NOT WANT YOUR HELP if the cost is harm to the HIV community. And I will NOT remain silent, I will NOT endorse you, while you harm them.

Obviously, HIV and SARS-COV-2 are different viruses. That's why they have different names, after all. But they do share many pathological mechanisms, and that's been known for literally years now. 🧵 SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1: So Different yet so Alike. Immune Response at the Cellular and Molecular Level

There's been a lot of posts lately, remembering a weirdly romanticized version of the political activism spurred by the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 1990s. Everyone likes to talk about Larry Kramer and ACT UP, but how many actually remember the rest of the story? 🧵 banner: aids - we need research not hysteria Behind the political activism, there were real people really dying from a real illness while the rest of the world really just ignored it. Kinda like today, actually - but weirdly no one likes to discuss this part of history. 🧵 die-in demonstration during aids crisis

Hi, I’m Froglet. I’m a 44 year old disabled unhoused female in Texas with Long Covid & resulting immunodeficiency. I’m crowdfunding for medical tests & treatments that might help me manage my illness instead of doing this to survive month to month. Please, if you don’t read any further, just take a moment to share this campaign on your social networks before you go. 🧵 I contracted SARS-CoV-2 in February 2020, and never fully recovered. I have since been diagnosed with persistent CD4 specific lymphopenia - which is the same type of immune deficiency seen in HIV/AIDS. I’ve experienced significant neurocognitive decline, changes in vision and hearing, dysautonomia, and opportunistic infections including reactivated cytomegalovirus, candidiasis, and p jirovecii pneumonia, as well as ongoing GI and dermatological symptoms, weight loss, night sweats, pain, and fatigue. 🧵labs from january 2022

Remember how in the eighties, everyone mistook the fact that the first cluster of patients with AIDS were all gay men, to mean that only gay men could get it, so they didn't connect the dots when people getting blood transfusions fell ill until a few more years went by? 🧵 Thats exactly what i hear all over again when i see people trying to find any commonality between people with long covid other than the fucking obvious one that is right there in the name: covid. thats it, the answer is covid, its not even a mystery this time. 🧵

I have masked in indoor public spaces for 5 years. Today, with a cold front bearing down on us and in desperate need to wash my winter clothes - and thankfully with funds to do so because of a generous donor - I found myself in an impossible situation 🧵 I spent over two hours attempting to get a ride via @lyft @AskLyft, from a popular business parking lot near my camp. FOUR drivers waited until they pulled up, to cancel my ride. In each instance, I had let them know in the driver note, I am not ill but immune compromised, my mask protects everyone. 🧵

How we frame public discourse is important. Failure to do so accurately, legitimizes absurd views that cannot be debated because they have no basis in rationality. 🧵 Let's examine using a benign example: What color is the sky?

Statement to @NIH RECOVER-TLC

Hello, my name is Froglet Taylor and I am a 44 year old female from Houston, Texas. I have had Long Covid for 4.5 years and am very disturbed that the majority of research to this point has been repetitive observational studies as millions of people like myself continue to get sicker with each passing day & are unable to access financial support because there is no point of care test for long covid.

1/
The first time I had Covid was in February 2020, when health department officials in Houston were telling us the virus hadn't been detected here and healthcare workers need masks for other things so we shouldn't use them. Untold numbers of people were not only infected as a result of these lies, but also denied timely testing which now limits their ability to obtain treatment or be included in research.

Interestingly, the research disagrees. Let's take a look.... screenshot of post claiming long covid is not present in or transmitted by blood and bringing up conspiracies 🗨️Passive transfer of IgG from patients to mice led to increased sensitivity and pain, mirroring patient-reported symptoms

Image is a chart that claims Israel has dropped more bombs on Gaza since Oct 7, 2023 than were dropped on London, Dresden, and Hiroshima combined during World War Two. I checked, its true - sources in this 🧵 Image 🇬🇧 London 🇬🇧

📍

🗨️Records are incomplete, but between 7 October 1940 and 6 June 1941 almost 28,000 high explosive bombs and over 400 parachute mines were recorded landing on Greater London. Daylight bombing was abandoned after October 1940 as the Luftwaffe experienced unsustainable losses.

📍

🗨️From September 1940, the German Luftwaffe dropped some 20,000 bombs on the city, killing thousands, and leaving many more homeless

people living with hiv are up to 80% more likely to experience some long covid symptoms. researchers point out the overlapping issues, and call for inclusion of these patients in long covid studies.

we need to talk about the fact that support groups for our community base how they handle discussion of not wanting to suffer anymore on the law where the person lives. not having access to maid doesn't make your suffering less valid than that of a person who does. and yes, i agree that maid as it is implemented in some places, is controversial. if there is no other choice, then its not really a choice, and that's not ok. but this thread isn't about that, ok. this is aout those who would choose it but can't. because we exist also.

I’m sure everyone has seen it by now, but I suspect there is a lot of confusion about the paper and the information presented. This thread hopefully clears things up a bit.

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome correlation with SARS-CoV-2 N genotypes
sciencedirect.com/science/articl… This paper uses in silica analysis to try to determine why some patients develop lymphocytopenia and/or persistent detection of virus or viral proteins following SARS-CoV-2 infection, while others appear not to.

This thread explains the findings reported in
“Differential decline of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody levels, innate and adaptive immune cells, and shift of Th1/inflammatory to Th2 serum cytokine levels long after first COVID-19”
doi.org/10.1111/all.16… Blood from 106 unvaccinated subjects was examined for SARS-CoV-2 specific antibodies, serum cytokines, and immune cell subsets at ten weeks and ten months following SARS-CoV-2 infection (pcr confirmed infections between May 2020 and August 2020).

Do you know *why* we breath?

Sure, we all know its because our body needs #oxygen, and we all know our blood carries it to all the cells in our body - but do you know why? 🧵 You've heard sugar is bad for you, right? And maybe you heard that carbohydrates are bad because they turn into sugar, as well.

But did you know that #glucose - the science name for sugar - is necessary (in the right form and amount) for your body to even function? 🧵

The twitterverse is buzzing about #maraviroc since the announcement of the upcoming #ClinicalTrial for #LongCovid so I want to give a bit of background info 🧵 maraviroc (brand name selzentry) is an hiv entry inhibitor and CCR5 antagonist. CCR5 is a signalling molecule expressed on the surface of immune cells to direct the immune response to pathogens.
