1/ The issue here is that radical leftists are running a motte and bailey game with DEI.
They use the very reasonable position @mcuban outlines as their motte, and one they gain power they abolish merit hiring, use hiring quotas, and require the adoption of leftist politics.
2/ Further, the adoption of particular political positions is very often made a condition of hiring. This usually takes the form of requiring employees to sign mandatory diversity statements containing loaded political language. Other times the demand is simply implicit...
3/ and those who don't get on board are denied advancement or are not hired.
In essence, DEI seeks to enforce a particular worldview and a set of (very left) social values on entire companies. In it's most pernicious form, DEI departments hijack entire institutions.
4/ The DEI activists re-orient the hijacked institution away from it's original mission and then use it as a vehicle for to advance their political and social goals. As ever more resources are dedicated to DEI, the organization becomes ineffective at it's original mission.
5/ When this happens the reputation of the organization suffers, and it's ability to recruit talent, raise funds, and operate effectively is compromised.
This is how woke takeovers of institutions occur, and almost always DEI policies are the way it is done.
6/ I think that @mcuban is arguin in good faith, taking the plain meaning of the terms Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and attempting to craft a workable policy.
However, in the Academic literature those words are actually terms of art that have very specific meanings.
@mcuban 7/
For example, In academic literature equity does not mean "treating people equally but while taking their specific situation into account."
In DEI literature equity means means: "an administered system in which shares are adjusted so that participants are made equal."
@mcuban 8/
In the DEI literature, equity is not a reference to equality, it is a reference to making sure that everyone has equal share of wealth, money, and power in society. In other words, in the DEI literature equity refers to using administrative systems to make OUTCOMES equal.
9/ The point here is that while the program @mcuban laid out might work very well (it may not, I can't say for sure) the fact is the program he laid out is VERY different from what you find in the academic DEI literature, and in the actual DEI programs in the corporate world.
@mcuban 10/
This is why DEI must be abolished. Once we ahve abolished DEI, we can then go about trying to figure out what actual best practice is for hiring, and we can experiment with different ideas. But we can't do that until we get our institutions out from under DEI.

1/ There's an element of @realchrisrufo's strategy no one has picked up on yet. It's this:
Almost nobody outside universities reads academic papers, so the papers radical activist professors write in which they defend absurd ideas don't get read by the general public.
So...
2/ Leftist acadenics are free to use academic journals to advance their social and political goals in the academy and no one notices because no one outside the academy reads it.
This dynamic allows leftist profs to make absurd claims on behalf of leftist dogma and pay no price.
3/ Since no one outside academia reads these journals, activist profs could claim truth does not exist, everything is about power, men can become women, and other such wild claims, and the general public was unaware that academia had been hijacked by a political agenda.
2/ Some many on the right came to think that because it sucks up all the oxygen of every conversation and can destroy careers and reputations, the racism/racist label has too much power and something must be done to lessen the power of that label.
The problem is this:
3/ To turn down the power of the word, some people are trying to disenpower the label by either just embracing racism as a good thing in an attempt to reverse the social power of the word, or by claiming racism is no sin at all in order to simply take the power out of the word.
1/ Leftist activists abuse their power every time they get any:
-Teachers in K-12 teaching woke ideology in class
-Woke HR administrators forcing DEI training on employees
-Soros DA's refusing to prosecute criminals
The woke activist will simply abuse their power by doing whst they want and seeing if they can get away with it. They do not ask if what they are doing is allowed, they simply do it and see if...
3/ anyone stops them. If not, they keep going
2. They will demand other people follow the "norms" and previous ways rules were interpreted, while the woke activist tosses norms out the window and inerprets the rules in what ever way suits them.
1/ Now that cancel culture is being used against radical extremists on the left (this woman said Oct 7 made her feel "proud") I expect the left will now join me in extolling the virtues of free speech and not getting people fired for their views.
2/ What is happening is that when the left could cancel whoever they wanted, appeals to principle, or charity, or forgiveness were laughed off and appeals to free speech were met with smug invocations of this XKCD comic👇
3/ The left then talked about how "this isn't cancel culture, it's concequence culture," and the importance of "accountibility" for people's views.
So now the political right has accepted the lefts' rules, and are using cancel culture against the left, and what happens????
1/ It's because those organizations believe the values, norms, attitudes, beliefs, and conventions that uphold the heterosexual two parent nuclear family as the standard for how to do family are a product of white supremacy, patriarchy, racism, sexism, and transphobia.
2/ These organizations think that any form of family that assumes that a chuld needs both a mother and a father is homophobic and transphobic, and that any paradigm for family life that focuses on fatherhood is reproducing and maintaining an oppresive gender binary.
3/ A focus on fatherhood "centers" the privileged group (men)
rather then marginalized groups (women and trans people).
So these groups only offer support to single mom's, gay married couples, trans couples, and so fourth. A family where the man leads get no help because...
"October 7th was one of the greatest days in the history of DECOLONIZATION."
Decolonization is an evil, violent, genocidal ideology that justifies (and in this video even celebrates) the murder of innocent civilians in the name of leftist politics.
2/ Franz Fanon wrote in the 60's that "decolonization is always a violent phenomenon."
The violence is not accidental....it's the entire GOAL of large swaths of the decolonization literature.
3/ Decolonization is not a synonym for fairness, equality, or justice. Decolonization is a political movement believes the west is an immoral, evil, illegitimate empire that needs to be abolished and destroyed, and that western ideas, and institutions need to be destroyed as well
