1/7 Why do some find note-taking to be challenging? π
It may be they have not developed the necessary skills or strategies to do it effectively. With practice and the right techniques, anyone can improve their note-taking abilities and become a more effective learner. π
2/7 Another challenge in note-taking could be a lack of consistency. People often only take notes during lectures or meetings but forget to do so during personal study time. This can lead to gaps in knowledge and missed opportunities for retention.
3/7 I'm not saying to write 24x7, but this is a skill that develops with experience. The more you can do it in useful contexts, the more refined your skills become.
I compare my notes of the past to the present to see the progress. The progress is a result of intentional effort.
4/7 Lastly, some struggle with finding their own style. There are different methods (e.g., bullet point lists, mind maps, etc.) and what works for one person might not work for another. Finding the right method takes experimentation and self-reflection.
5/7 One way to find your style is to experiment with different methods until you find one (or a combo of methods) that works best for you.
Investing in yourself is the best investment, but it still costs time and effort. No shortcuts to good things.
6/7 Experiment with a new method during your next lecture or meeting. Then, compare it to your previous notes. Ask yourself: Did the new method help me retain more info? Did it create a better organization of ideas? If I read these notes years from now, will they still be useful?
7/7 Additionally, reflecting on what type of learner you are (e.g., visual, auditory, kinesthetic) can also inform which note-taking method may work best for you. Remember that finding the right style takes time & practice β be patient as you explore different strategies! β¨ππ

2/4 The benefit is users can find documentation for features in the context of their work in Obsidian. This should help when stepping through something new or complicated.
3/4 While it by default includes the help for Obsidian, other plugin and theme authors can register their documentation with HelpMate. Several popular plugins have already committed to adding support in upcoming releases (Dataview, Templater, Excalidraw)

With this year's Obsidian October, I started work on my newest plugin, which is now ready for beta testing. Read on to learn more.
It is my attempt to bring Obsidian's help into the Obsidian UI, but not just Obsidian's help. #TfT
2/6 As you can see in the screenshot, HelpMate is a sidepane showing help for Obsidian inside Obsidian. It simply displays the help website for Obsidian, but it is much more convenient to have it in Obsidian. Read, learn, and apply.
But it isn't limited to Obsidian Help.
3/6 Plugins and themes can also register their help sites to be displayed by HelpMate. Some of the most popular plugins like Dataview and Excalidraw from @zsviczian already support HelpMate and many more to come.
(I will be documenting this for devs over the next few days)
2/10 @tylerwince told me that something funny happens when you engage with AI using text, and he is so right. π
Speaking is a much more natural way for us to interact when compared to writing text. π£οΈ
3/10 Imagine being with a friend, & you have two notepads. Each person writes one thought, and the other responds by writing a response. It would be very slow and limit the depth of the conversation. Speech encourages expression of subtle details that we don't capture in writing.
1/5 π Exciting News! Introducing Canvas Candy, the game-changing toolkit designed exclusively for canvas in Obsidian! Upgrade your canvas boards like never before! π
I was surprised to see many books on Amazon related to Obsidian. It is nice to see options available in eBook and printed form for new Obsidian users, or users looking to go further. Here is a list of those books.
Do you know of others?
