Data from surveys of college and university faculty between 1969 and 2020 suggests that academia has become substantially more liberal over time.

This data suggests that the ratio of liberals to conservatives has steadily increased from under 2 to over 8 in just fifty years.

There is more limited evidence that these trends are similar across disciplines, but also that disciplines vary in their starting points.
