Remembering the great Indian freedom fighter #Pradyot_Kumar_Bhattacharya (1913–1933) on his 91st martyrdom anniversary. An avid follower of martyr Dinesh Gupta, Pradyot was a daring member of the Bengal Volunteers (BV),

a valiant & very influential revolutionary group organized by Satya Gupta & Hemachandra Ghosh under the supervision of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In 1932, BV leaders decided to eliminate Robert Douglas, the monstrous District Magistrate of Midnapore &

a chief supporter of the Hijli Detention Camp killings. After a lot of discussion, Pradyot & Prabhanshu Shekhar Pal were selected for this chilling mission. It was indeed a Himalayan task to complete as Douglas used to cover himself under intense security.

On April 30, 1932, the duo quite amazingly made their entry in a strongly secured district board meeting by fooling the mighty British intelligence & shot Douglas dead. As soon as they started to make their escape from the spot, the securities began to chase them with

repeated firings along the road. Prabhanshu managed to terrify them by firing shots in reply & succeeded to escape. But when Pradyot tried to do the same, his revolver stopped working. It was sheer badluck for him. And he got arrested right away.

Then, in police custody, brutal torture techniques were used on him for seeking information about his associate. But Pradyot never uttered the name of Prabhanshu in front of police. Ultimately he was hanged on this day in 1933.

Although Prabhanshu too got captured by the police after some months & had to spend some years in prison, Britishers couldn't hang him as they ultimately failed to prove Prabhanshu's role in the murder case in court as Pradyot never mentioned his name.

While awaiting execution, just like his idol Dinesh Gupta, Pradyot authored some valuable letters which delineate the unmatched valour, self-sacrificing nature, unflinching determination,

thought-provoking perspectives & poignant life stories of the real Indian freedom fighters.

Every time the utterly baseless & untrue claim of liberating India through "peaceful nonviolent movements" gets appeared,

that in every possible way insults those true freedom fighters like Pradyot who sacrificed everything without expecting anything in return. It's nothing short of an absolute shame that while his contemporary pro-British,

opportunistic and power-hungry Indian leaders of left-wing, right-wing & centrist politics relish their glorified presence in nearly all the government-recognized Indian history books & websites, Pradyot & Prabhanshu seldom get any mention in them. 🙏
