Professor Michael Mann took an enormous hammering in court over the deficiencies in his Hockey Stick analysis.
He is suing Mark Steyn (and Rand Simberg) for defamation after they called his graph a fraud. Just listen to Simberg's lawyer Victoria Weatherford demolish him:

Mann said he did not gather the data for the Hockey Stick.
He handled the statistics that showed flat temps for 1000 years and a sudden recent warming and tried desperately to avoid admitting he was not qualified in statistics.

W Yes or no? Your PHD is not in statistics? MANN: It's in geology & geophysics
W:That's a no, it's not in statistics
MANN: Obviously No.

And then Mann tried to deny, not very convincingly, that he failed to consult a professional statistician when constructing the Hockey Stick graph - possibly the most influential graph of the 20th century.Listen to the word salad

MANN: "I don't think that's a fair characterization at all. We wrote this paper over the course of a
couple of years. There was extensive analysis. We
presented the results of our findings at meetings like the American geophysical union and meteorological society meeting. "

"Where we get feedback from professional colleagues some who are statisticians.
There's a whole field known as statistical climatology and I served on the board for the American meteorological societies. I believe it was statistics and data analysis board." HE BELIEVES! LOL

"I was a member of that board and interacted quite a bit. " HE INTERRACTED!

"In 1994, I attended the very first statistical climatology project at the National Center for Atmospheric Research which was the first time that the NSF brought together statisticians and climate scientists for a workshop." A WORKSHOP!

"And they invited graduate students of which I was one to that workshop. I have been interacting with statisticians since early in my graduate years." I interact with doctors a lot - does that make me a doctor?

It got worse for Professor Mann:
Q Do you recall at your deposition you were asked about whether or not you worked then consulted with professional statistician in preparation of your MBH 98 (Hockey Stick) paper?

MANN: "I don't recall the specifics. "
Q: You were asked this question. And you said, quote, "I don't recall efforts to consult with statisticians to be specific."

FROM DEPOSITION: "I didn't really consult with, you know, you know, I, my knowledge was based on my reading of the literature and course work that I had taken."
