The series of events that led to this moment in New York Redistricting, a thread (π§΅):
-Original Hochulmander struck down in Harkenrider v Hochul in a 4-3 decision authored by former Chief Judge Janet DiFiore
-Legislature opens up misconduct proceedings into DiFiore
-DiFiore resigns
-Hochul nominates conservative judge Hector LaSalle
-In an unprecedented move, the legislature rejects LaSalle
-Hochul nominates Judge Rowan Wilson, author of scathing dissent in Harkenrider, to be chief
-In an unprecedented move, Wilson changes the recusal process, allowing him to select interim judges
-Hochul nominates Caitlin Halligan to replace Wilson as associate judge
-Elias group challenges the existing lines, to be heard by the new court, Halligan mysteriously recuses
-In a 4-3 decision authored by Rowan Wilson, the New York Court of Appeals rules that the 2022 map was temporary, and that special master maps that last the whole decade are unconstitutional
-None of the judges in the majority write concurring opinions
-Legislature advances a law making it illegal to bring gerrymandering challenges in any appellate courts other than the notoriously hackish Albany court
Someone please tell me, does this seem like a legislature/court majority/state party that is happy to accept a new congressional map that is WORSE for Dems than status quo in exchange for their efforts?

Thoughts on Dianne Feinstein: 1) She should not have run in 2018. 2) She should have retired ahead of 2020 or 2022. 3) She absolutely should not have been put on the Judiciary Committee. 4) Given that sheβs back for now, if she is capable of voting, she should finish her term.
If she were to step down, I absolutely do not trust the GOP to handle her replacement on the Judiciary committee in good faith and I also do not trust Manchin/Sinema to go nuclear if necessary.
Ultimately, I think Schumer deserves the most blame for letting her into the Judiciary committee, the most important committee this congress by far.
I will not stand for Christy Smith hatred. That is a district that is much redder downballot and where the Dem bench is nonexistent, and she was wrongly triaged by the DCCC.
I donβt think you should criticize her without understanding how difficult that area is. It is a place where downballot Republicans routinely outperform the top of the ticket by comfortable margins.
Iβm not saying that she ran a spectacular campaign or anything. I just think that the fact that her race is one of the last to be called combined with the narrowness of the overall margin causes her to get more hatred than she deserves.
