Only in America would the Supreme Court limit the power of their own branch of government.

As Justice Jackson writes: “In essence, the Court has now shoved lower court judges out of the way in cases where executive action is challenged, and has gifted the Executive with the prerogative of sometimes disregarding the law.”

“As a result, the judiciary-the one institution that is solely responsible for ensuring our Republic endures as a Nation of laws—has put both our legal system, and our system of gov-ernment, in grave jeopardy.”

Brutal. Justice Elena Kagen absolutely shreds the Trump administration for even bringing the birthright citizenship case to the Supreme Court after losing so much: “If I were in your shoes, there is no way I'd approach the supreme court with this case.”

Also slams the gov’t for “losing constantly” in this case and calls out the government’s lawyer that they didn’t even bring the substantive question in front of the case and asks point blank, “Why would you ever take this question for us?”

Justice Kagen not having it at all.

I need everyone to hear me on this:

A mayor has no control over hurricane-level wind gusts.

100 fire trucks would not have stopped a fire in 100+ MPH winds.

Scientists & firefighters have said the same. End of discussion.

Now is the time we focus on rebuilding.

Exhibit A: Lots of folks are focused on the budget part of the conversations and not on this part of the same interview. Chief Crowley makes clear that even with an additional 100 engines, it would not have caught that fire.

As this former wildfire fighter points out, it is nearly impossible to put out wildfires above a certain speed, because, well, they create their own weather. No person could have controlled that. Nothing would’ve been able to stop that.

For fact’s sake: There was NO $17 million cut to the Los Angeles Fire Department budget this year. In fact, there was a $50 million INCREASE in the Los Angeles Fire Department. Cold, hard facts. Full stop. Period.

To those who spread misinformation: issue corrections. Now.

The misinformation and disinformation has been insane and angering, finding ways to blame Mayor Bass for things she, quite frankly, never did. @politico reported this yesterday. Mayor Bass did NOT cut funding for LAFD. Any assertion otherwise is untrue & must be called out.

@politico Here’s a good explainer of how city budgets work from @ReecieColbert (fellow UCLA alum). Just because you allocate a certain amount does not mean you have to spend that much. The LAFD spent $66 million over budget as we learn from this explainer
