The human system as it is now, is nothing but a game, with rules designed by powerful people in charge of our societies over the generations, to suit themselves. It makes them very rich, keeps you poor, and gives all the control to them. Heads they win, tails you lose.
1/🧵
This may seem very cynical, subversive even, but it is simply how it is. How else is it that Trump has committed so many egregious crimes, and manages to wriggle out of it each time? Same in the UK with our corrupt government.

2/theguardian.com/politics/2022/…
It's a rigged system, with loaded dice, where the rich and the powerful always win, and everyone else loses.

The post-war boom, which lifted living standards for so many, over the following decades, was an accident, resulting from egalitarian policies, put in place in WW2.
3/
But don't worry, the neoliberal doctrine put in place by Margaret Thatcher, and Ronald Reagan, managed to correct that. Now we're back on track for rocketing wealth for the world's billionaires, and most people are getting poorer.

4/oxfam.org.uk/media/press-re…
Worst of all, those in control of our societies are blocking effective climate action, and sustainable development policy, because it hampers their agenda to get even richer.

The people who should be paying for climate action, are the very rich.
5/
After all, the top 1% are not only the people most profiting from the burning of fossil fuels, but they have by far the largest carbon footprints per person of any demographic. So why aren't they taxed and made to pay for that, proportionally?

6/theguardian.com/us-news/2023/n…
Because those in the top 1% get to write or re-write all the rules of this game, to suit themselves. So they intend to put the cost burden of paying for Net Zero policy, on everyone, making it unpopular, as a cunning way to block climate action.
7/
The sensible way to raise money to pay for Net Zero, would be to put massive taxes on private jets and the wealth and income of billionaires. It would be popular with ordinary people i.e. the majority. But that doesn't happen, because the majority don't get to write the rules.
8/
The only people who can make personal decisions to re-write the rules of the game, which rewards them so richly, all reside in the top 1%. Remember, they and their predecessors, designed the game (system) to suit them.
9/
The top 1% get to gaslight humanity, that this is all normal, fair, and how it should be, because by no coincidence, they own all the media, and others in the top 1% also run the media, and they own all the social media too. Heads they win, tails you lose.
10/
As I say, it's a rigged game, where the house always wins, because the house, the establishment, is fully owned and run by the top 1% who make all the major decisions, and write the rules.
11/
If this was just unfair, it could be argued, that if people don't object to being taken advantage of, it's their own fault.

But it's not just about social justice, although it really does matter. It's about our very survival.
12/
This is because the climate and ecological crisis, created by this rigged game, and the rich getting massively richer, is destroying the natural systems, which sustain us, putting us on a globally suicidal course.
13/
Again, by no coincidence whatsoever, the latest trend of the richest people in the world, is building themselves bunkers, to try and save themselves from the shitfest they're creating. Meant to keep ordinary people out, and away from their provisions.

14/hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/life…
You do wonder why more people can't see through this. Yes, I've dealt with the gaslighting, but even then you'd think, it's rather obvious.

But no, the super rich have got all the gullible believing in fake conspiracy theories, and hating on the downtrodden.
15/
Where it's all the fault of the woke, and various minorities, or some secret conspiracy of the deep state or the elite. But the weird thing is, the richest man in the world is peddling these conspiracy theories about the elite. How elite is that?
16/
Exactly, how much more elite do you get than being the richest man in the world, or one of his billionaire mates?

Nearly all the sponsors of these elite conspiracy theories, are billionaires, who are the actual elite. Again, you'd think it would be rather obvious.
17/
Anyway, that's how it actually is, and what I just said is no conspiracy theory. The richest and most powerful people in society over the generations did actually write the rules of the game. To make it falsely appear as if it just arose like that, by coincidence.

On the Climate Crisis Club yesterday, the scientific predictions for the progress of climate change came up. I do not dispute any of that science, but those who see it unfolding like this, have made one profound mistaken assumption.

1/🧵
The conventional interpretation of the science, mistakenly sees our societies, our civilization, lasting much as it is now, whilst we see huge sea level rise at the end of the century, putting in place measures, to reverse climate change.
2/
I don't dispute the veracity of this science. Rather the scientists, assuring us it is not catastrophic, do not understand the dynamics of our civilization, and how vulnerable it is to climate shocks, long before the before the big physical impacts, like sea level rise.

We're seeing a worrying move towards authoritarianism/fascism, with the UK government, as evidenced by the increasing political direction of policing by government ministers.

1/🧵theguardian.com/world/2024/mar…
Government ministers, including the Prime Minister, will demand tougher action against, certain types of protestor, and lo and behold, the police comply. There is not supposed to be this type of political control of the police and the courts, but self-evidently there is.
2/
The 2 groups of protestors being targeted by the authorities, are climate/environmental activists, and currently those protesting about the genocidal actions in Gaza, involving massive loss of civilian lives.

How many people are interested in connecting with the natural world, and how we've become disconnected from it?

To me this is THE crucial issue, in the climate and ecological emergency i.e. this disconnection from the living systems that keep us alive.
1/🧵
Until our modern culture, all human cultures used to have a close personal relationship with the natural world. It was revered.

They'd never have contemplated, the abusive relationship, with the natural world, our life-support system, which our modern culture has developed.
2/
I'm asking this, because one of the few talents I've had, is introducing people to the natural world, making it come alive for people.

I don't think I'm being too delusional here, as people who've been on my guided walks etc, will confirm this.

'Rishi Sunak is seeking to halt demonstrations outside MPs’ homes after telling senior police officers that the UK is descending into “mob rule”.'

Just days after Sunak posed and gave to support, to disruptive protests by conspiracy theorists.

1/🧵theguardian.com/world/2024/feb…
On the same day the UN Special Rapporteur heavily criticized the oppressive repression of peaceful climate protest, by the likes of Sunak's government.

Sunak, the unelected PM, spouting on about democracy, whilst trying to suppress it, is doublespeak.

2/theguardian.com/environment/20…
Apparently, protests with threats of disruption and hints of violence, is fine, if the protests are inspired by right wing conspiracy theorists.

What utter hypocrisy, disingenuity, and Orwellian doublethink.

This has triggered me to write a thread, I've been meaning to write for some time.

We're in a dire climate and ecological emergency, which is going to lead to the collapse of our civilization unless we urgently change direction, and hardly anyone realizes the seriousness.
1/🧵
It is now being framed by those committed to business as usual BaU, as if climate activists are overreacting, catastrophizing.

No, the situation is far worse and far more dire than most could imagine, as @ClimateHuman has been trying to point out.

2/theguardian.com/environment/20…
We find ourselves in a dire situation. Yet only a small proportion of people really understand how dire the situation really is, and most are in some level of denial.

How, do you discuss this situation, when most people, to some degree, are in some form of active denial?

It was very interesting taking part in the Climate Inclusion Network @CLIMATEINCLUS Space yesterday, and great to hear from @vanessa_vash and @ShiellaAtto who made some excellent points.

But it also made me so aware of what a massive mountain we have to climb.
1/🧵
I have been very impressed by the sincerity of African activists, who are far more at the front line of the early effects of climate change, in a way, most in the Global North are not aware of.

I felt guilty, about not being able to provide a clear way forward.
2/
Up to a certain difficult to pin down point in time, it was just about credible, that the world's leaders/governments, would act in a way, they have long pledged to act.

But it's no longer credible to believe they were ever sincere.
