I’m 22.

I used to be a broke, depressed uni student with no idea what I wanted to do in my life.

Then, I discovered stoicism, and the philosophy changed my life forever.

My 15 favorite takeaways: Image
We Control How We React

Epictetus, a former slave, said, “The chief task of the philosopher is to determine what’s up to us and what’s not up to us.”

That’s the definition of stoicism: We don’t control what happens to us. We control how we respond to what happens to us.
For the stoics, everything is an opportunity to respond with 4 virtues:

• Courage
• Temperance
• Justice
• Wisdom

Every obstacle standing in your way is itself the way.
Form Foundational Habits

Stoics are busy people, both now and in the olden days.

The key is to develop essential practices, like an internal compass.

The alternative is to constantly guess your next step.
Prepare For The Hours Ahead

Philosophy is an active practice. A dialog with oneself.

Work out what you’re thinking as you’re thinking.

(Journaling is helpful)

Get your juices flowing when the stakes are low, so that can perform when the stakes are high.
Go For A Walk

Nietzsche: “Only ideas had when walking have any worth.”

Seneca: “The mind must be given over to wandering walks. Fields that are not allowed to rest will not bear plants. The mind will break like an anvil if not rested.”

Lace up those sneakers.
Commit To Consistency

Zeno: “Well-being is realized by small steps but it’s no small thing.”

Marcus Aurelius: “Assemble your life, action by action.”

Make a bit of progress every day. Keep showing up.

Wisdom is accumulated experience by experience.
Engage With Your Community

Marcus Aurelius: “The fruit of this life is a good character and acts of the common good.”

Stoics are not divorced from the world. On the contrary, they try to do what is right for themselves and the world.

We serve something larger than ourselves.
Push Your Limits

Epictetus: “Put every impression up to the test.”

You know what weakness feels like, but you don’t have to listen to it.

Growth is on the other side of that resistance — your superpower is knowing when to push through or not.
Cherish Your Loved Ones

You don’t possess people, so don’t take them for granted.

Don’t assume that you’ll always have them.

They are here on earth on loan only.
Read, Read, Read

• Do it all the time
• Speed reading is a trap
• Classics are classics for a reason
• Quit bad books
• Find one book in every book to read next
• Ask how you’re going to apply the information
• If the book is good, recommend it to someone else
Memento Mori (Remember You Will Die)

It’s a reminder to accept the good things without arrogance and to let the bad things go with indifference.

Even if you strike the lottery, get recognized, get into trouble, or get betrayed, remember:

You can’t take any of this seriously.
Value Time More Than Money & Possessions

Seneca: “The time that passes belongs to death.”

You can earn more money, land, and opportunities, but you can’t get this moment back.

Everything you do, you purchase with your life.
Interrogate Yourself

Seneca has a rule to put the day up for review

• What could I have done better?
• Who do I want to be?
• Was I being that person?

That’s how you get better.
Seek Out Challenges

Cliche as it is, do one thing every day that scares you.

To quote Herman Melville, “To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme.”

Like we lift weights to get stronger, we must tackle hard things.

We become better for what we struggle with.
Don’t Follow the Mob

Chrysippus: “I think for myself.”

Stoics are not contrarians, but they think independently.

Thinking for yourself is the hardest thing in the world — but if you were to forge your own path, it’s necessary.

The GOD of billion-dollar brands:

Ryan Reynolds.

Companies he co-owns or has sold are valued at $14 Billion+.

Here’s how he does it: Image
If you study Ryan and his success, you’d notice he:

• Is always on the lookout for opportunities
• Actively markets the businesses himself
• Becomes the face of the brand with his goofy personality
• Creates creative ads that are one-of-a-kind
• Moves fast, follows trends
When Ryan sees a viable opportunity, he takes it.

He tasted Aviation Gin one day, fell in love with it, and decided to buy a stake in the company

But he didn’t stop there.

He also became the face of Aviation Gin.

In 2019, Sam Altman (Founder of OpenAI) published a blog post on How To Be Successful.

It's a phenomenal blueprint for maximizing your chance of success.

Here's how I'm applying his rules: Image
Compound Yourself

Everything in life compounds — including yourself.

I'm making sure to compound myself by

• Building a personal brand
• Learning a bunch of skills
• Investing in my health
• Reading religiously

It’s all going to pay back 100x.
Have Almost Too Much Self-Belief

I’m sure some people think I’m delusional.

I have unwavering belief that I’ll be earning $30K/m bottom line profit within 12 months.

Does this make me crazy? Maybe.

But I’d rather be optimistic and wrong, than pessimistic and right.

11 one-minute habits that give you a 100x return on investment:

1) Taking calls on walks
Choosing to take calls on walks is a game-changer.

Not only do you stop getting burned out by calls, but you also

• Get sunlight
• Get out in nature
• Get your 10K steps in

A much more enjoyable and healthy way to do your calls.
2) Writing people's names down

Remembering someone's name is an easy, low-cost way to build relationships that few people do.

Whenever you meet someone:

• Open apple notes
• Jot their name down
• Add a brief description

Now watch people smile.

You spend 1/3 of your life asleep.

And your bad sleeping habits are killing you.

Here's 6 easy ways to improve your sleep: Image
1. No food 3 hours before bed

Eating before you sleep causes the digestive process to interfere with your sleep.

Metabolic activity and increased insulin production will interfere with the physiological process of sleep preparation.

Which results in lower-quality sleep.
2. No coffee after 12:00

Caffeine has a quarter-life of 10-12 hours.

This means your body will still have 1/4 of the caffeine you consume 12 hours ago.

And caffeine

• Reduces deep sleep quality
• Increases sleep fragmentation

So don't have it after 12:00.

19 Tim Ferriss quotes to live a happy and successful life: Tim Ferrriss
"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with."

Pick your tribe carefully.

Surround yourself with high-value individuals that push you towards your goals.

Not degenerates that put you down for dreaming.
"The best things in life are often waiting for you at the exit ramp of your comfort zone."

Be bold.

Don't be scared.

Beautiful experiences await you outside your comfort zone.

You won't win 2023 if you procrastinate.

Here are 8 simple ways to stop:
Focus is the key to achieving your goals.

And procrastination is the arch enemy of focus.

So if you can destroy procrastination, you can focus and achieve your goals.

And achieving your goals = winning.

Make sense?

Cool, let's beat procrastination.
1. Stop organising

You organise because it makes you feel productive when deep down, you know you're procrastinating.

So stop that.

Only organise when you really have to, and it would save you time.

Otherwise, embrace the disorder.
