Today I’m over in Sri Lanka rolling out the 7th partnership we have in 3rd country for sterilising street dogs. Its an incredible operation that we are funding and part of the 2200 dogs a month well now sterilise. The scale is starting to get exciting… (1/6) 🧵
I figured the quickest way to help dogs at scale was find world class partners. We focus at what we are good at…
💰 Providing funding
📈 Marketing and awareness
The wonderful Partner is WeCare. A charity founded by a vet called Janey… (2/6)
The lorry is state of the art and can sterilize 30 dogs a day and provide education to locals. This is very much a pilot. I want to get more of these trucks on the road ASAP.
So much more can be achieved for the dogs by working together (3/6)
A little check in on some of the dogs. Only good news today…
Chance is drastically better. The eyes tell you everything this week versus last. Her skin is healing, her bloods are fixed and her tail is wagging. Shes not the only one… (1/4) 🧵
Remember when little Eve was red raw after getting burnt and couldn’t walk? Well this is her today. She is like a 🚀 and her leg is fully pain free (2/4)
Little Billy is doing wonderfully. He loves cuddles and has calmed down completely now. He loves walking and Eve is his best friend and she shows him around as he struggles.
He even walked through 20 cows today like a boss but not sure her even saw them 😅😅 (3/4)
Some rescues are quick but this one has taken about 8 months so far… the ending today is beautiful though. Worth all the pain and suffering these 2 girls have been through.
The trauma for Lina and Sophie started when we were warned to move them “or else” (1/6) 🧵
They were so traumatized that we couldn’t touch them. People had been throwing rocks at them. After our fairly rough catching of them (we had to act fast) they really didn’t like humans at all. 4 were rehomed and we were left with 3 (2/6)
Things then went downhill so fast. They all contracted parvo. The little brother sadly died super fast. I still don’t know how the 2 sisters survived. It took 15 days in the vets hanging on for dear life on a drip (3/6)
The first is that he got groomed today and is feeling unbelievably good. ✂️ 🧼
He says it’s the youngest he’s felt in years and thinks it shows off his beast feature lovely… his ears.
But Billy has even bigger news (1/4) 🧵
Billy was incredibly well behaved and trusting. His health problems are all nearly fixed and he is looking superb.
He doesn’t have any signs of stress or PTSD which he had when he arrived. He’s a very relaxed dog again. Next up are his eyes 👀 (2/4)
The big news is that Billy just got an appointment with an eye specialist and to have his operation on the 27th April. It’s in the big hospital 800km away but he’s all booked in.
Thanks to the generosity of a kind person online Billy should regain full sight (3/4)
We have a new arrival today. She’s a little street dog who is really down on her luck. She is agony from her skin disease but that was only the warning sign for something more serious going on internally (1/5) 🧵
A local lady alerted us to her. She had been trying everything to fix her skin from expensive tablets to coconut oil. She is a street dog but this woman had been really trying everything to save her. We took her in this morning (2/5)
We got her to the vets and she has a bunch of bad stuff going on inside. The skin has to wait while we fix that.
Many will ask why the women didn’t get vet care. The answer is it’ll probably end up costing about $250 all in after all tests and treatments. Monthly salary here is about $300. The woman tried everything within her means. We’ll be able to send lab tests to Bangkok to find out about the skin etc (3/5)
It’s exactly a month since Billy came into my world. He’d been attacked, was very badly shook up, had no sight and we had to figure out his back story.
You won’t believe his turnaround today… (1/7) 🧵
He had so many problems including…
🪱 Heart worm
🔪 Slash wounds
👀 Loss of sight
🧠 Clearly some brain issues
His biggest issue was PTSD. He screamed like this for 4-5 hours at a time. It was all a huge mystery to treat as limited vets on the island (2/7)
Billy’s hospital trip was 800km and he was in for 9 days. Am MRI revealed swelling on the brain but treatable. His eye sight was from cataracts. His heart worm was not as bad as first thought. Billy was sick but would live (3/7)
