NEW: During a mandatory "structural racism" class at UCLA medical school, a pro-Hamas guest speaker led students in chants of "Free, Free Palestine" and demanded that they bow down to "mama earth" for a prayer.

We have obtained exclusive audio.🧵
Tiny Gray-Garcia, who has referred to Oct. 7 as "justice," began the March 27 class by leading students in what she described as a "non-secular prayer" to "the ancestors," instructing everyone to get on their knees and touch the floor—"mama earth"—with their fists.
At least half the class complied, two students said. Gray-Garcia, a local activist who had been invited to speak about "Housing (In)Justice," proceeded to thank native tribes for preserving "what the settlers call L.A." and to remind students of the city’s "herstory."
The prayer also included a benediction for "black," "brown," and "houseless people" who die due to the "crapatalist lie" of "private property."

"Mama earth," Gray-Garcia told the kneeling students, "was never meant to be bought, sold, pimped, or played."
So began a long and looney lecture that shocked some students at the elite medical school and has led to calls for an investigation.
Wearing a keffiyeh that covered her entire face, Gray-Garcia, a self-described "poverty scholar," led the class in chants of "Free, Free Palestine" as faculty and staff looked on in silence, according to students in the course and contemporaneous text messages.
One of the onlookers was Lindsay Wells, a pediatrician at UCLA and the director of the mandatory first-year course, "Structural Racism and Health Equity," who did not respond to a request for comment.
Gray-Garcia later referred to modern medicine as "white science" and inveighed against the "occupation" of "Turtle Island"—that is, the United States—before asking students to stand for a second prayer. This time, nearly everyone rose.
When one student remained seated, according to students in the class, a UCLA administrator, whom the Free Beacon could not identify, inquired about the student’s identity, implying that discipline could be on the table.
"The net effect was that UCLA staff intimidated first-year medical students into participating in a religious service in derogation of their own personal beliefs," UCLA’s Jewish Faculty Resilience Group wrote to university chancellor Gene Block on Sunday.
"There needs to be an urgent and thorough external review and investigation of the [medical school’s] curriculum and systemic antisemitism."

UCLA and Gray-Garcia did not respond to requests for comment.
The surreal spectacle is the latest controversy to envelop the "Structural Racism and Health Equity" class, launched in the wake of George Floyd’s death as a part of the medical school’s "anti-racism roadmap."
The course became the subject of a civil rights complaint in January after it separated students into race-based discussion groups—one for white students, another for African Americans, and a third for "Non-Black People of Color."
More unwanted attention came in March when the Daily Wire published portions of the course’s syllabus, which includes units on "settler colonialism" and recommends a podcast about "Indigenous womxn’s health."
Students are also urged to read an essay, "Decolonization is not a metaphor," that describes the "epistemic, ontological, cosmological violence" of "the settler."
Gray-Garcia’s talk offers a window into the way these concepts are shaping the classroom experience at one of the top medical schools in the country—and raises serious questions about how that school vetted a speaker with a long history of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic posts.
"When u resist after decades of relentless poLicing [sic], killing & terrorizing," Gray-Garcia tweeted on Nov. 1, "that’s not ‘terrorism’ that’s justice." Image
Israel, she declared in 2018, is "amerikkklan." Image
News of Gray-Garcia’s lecture comes as the Department of Education is investigating UCLA over a string of anti-Semitic episodes on campus, including an incident in which students bludgeoned a piñata with a picture of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s face.
"Beat that f—ing Jew," one student allegedly shouted. In a separate incident, UCLA moved an event with former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni online due to threats of protests.
Beyond her anti-Israel posts, Gray-Garcia’s writings include a book called How to Not Call the Po’Lice Ever and a poem, "Dear KKKolumbus," dedicated to black people killed by law enforcement. letterstocolumbus.tumblr.com/post/151584964…
"Pop - Pop/Our babies have been shot," the first stanza reads. "By these occupying armies called KKKops."

NEW: The chief diversity officer of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, LaVar Charleston, has a decades-long track record of research misconduct.

He passed off old studies as new work at least 5 times.

Oh—and he attempted to strangle a police officer.🧵freebeacon.com/campus/complai…
A complaint filed with the university yesterday implicates eight of Charleston’s publications, many of them coauthored, and accuses him of plagiarizing other scholars as well as duplicating his own work.

It comes as the university is already investigating Charleston over a separate complaint filed in January, alleging that a 2014 study by him and his wife—Harvard chief diversity officer Sherri Ann Charleston—is a facsimile of a study he published in 2012. freebeacon.com/campus/not-jus…

NEW: When Middlebury students organized a vigil after Oct. 7, the school told them to avoid the word “Jewish” and just reference “all the innocent lives lost.”

But weeks later, Middlebury approved a “Vigil for Palestine” focused exclusively on Gaza.🧵freebeacon.com/campus/middleb…
In an email to students reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, Middlebury dean of students Derek Doucet, who has oversight of student activities, pushed to rename the vigil and strip it of references to Judaism so as to make it "as inclusive as possible."
"Some suggestions that might help are stating that this gathering is to honor ‘all the innocent lives lost,’" Doucet wrote, and including a reference to the "tragedies that have struck Israel and Gaza." He added that referencing Jews could trigger "unhelpful reactions."

NEW: The chief diversity officer of Columbia University's medical school, Alade McKen, plagiarized extensively in his doctoral dissertation, lifting huge chunks of material without attribution.

Two pages in the dissertation come directly from Wikipedia.🧵

A complaint filed with Columbia yesterday implicates approximately a fifth of McKen's 163-page dissertation. Over two of those pages are a near-verbatim facsimile of Wikipedia's entry on "Afrocentric education," which McKen never cites.

Other pages lift paragraphs from well-known African scholars, including the University of Rwanda's Chika Ezeanya-Esiobu, while making small tweaks to their prose, such as reordering certain clauses or changing a "were" to a "was." Image

NEW: Tenured faculty at the University of Pennsylvania could soon be punished for making “shoddy” arguments.

That’s according to the sanctions that Liz Magill—the former Penn president who equivocated about calls for killing Jews—approved for Amy Wax.

We have exclusive docs.🧵
Magill accepted the recommendations of a Penn hearing board in August to suspend Wax—a tenured law professor—for a year at half pay and to strip her of a named chair, according to a report from Philadelphia Inquirer and documents obtained exclusively by yours truly.
Wax had a long record of controversial statements that the school claimed violated its anti-discrimination policies, including her criticisms of diversity, equity, and inclusion officials, who she claimed "couldn’t be scholars if their life depended on it."

NEW: Last month Stanford held a forum on combating anti-Semitism. By the night’s end, protesters had physically threatened Jewish students, harassed a rabbi, and told employees they would "find out where you live."

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.🧵freebeacon.com/campus/run-by-…
David Schuller, 24, a yarmulke-wearing graduate student in Stanford’s physics department, found himself surrounded by a mob of hecklers when he approached a protest outside the forum.

"The IDF killed your hostages," the mob chanted at Schuller.
One protester can be seen taking the visibly Jewish student aside and whispering what Schuller described as a threat in his ear.

"He told me, ‘Watch it man, we’re watching you. You better know what you’re getting into,’" Schuller told the Free Beacon.

NEW: Yale Law's chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, the group that celebrated the murder of 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, is calling on the school to cancel an event with an IDF soldier, arguing that his presence on campus will make students unsafe.🧵freebeacon.com/campus/yale-la…
"The platforming of an IDF combatant recently returned from Israel's atrocities in Gaza makes many of us—especially Palestinian Arab, Muslim, Black, and brown students—feel physically and psychologically unsafe and unwelcome in our own school,” the group wrote in a Feb. 1 post. Image
The demand to cancel the event, which is scheduled for Monday evening, comes weeks after the same group called on Yale to "protect free speech."
