The US Dept of Education has proposed rule changes to Title IX. That is the law that protects women’s sports. It will come as no surprise that the proposed rules gut women’s and girl’s sports. In some cases banning it completely.

A thread. 🧵 1/
The proposed rule says that any policies that categorically set up women’s and girls’ sports would violate Title IX. Oh, they phrase it differently but that’s what it means. 2/ Image
Yes. You read that right. If you have girls sports that are for girls only that can now VIOLATE Title IX.
3/
There are some rules around when you can and can’t have girls sports. For example, if they don’t think the sports are that competitive, and the sports are more for fun, and the kids are young, you can’t have girls only sports. 4/ Image
Schools have to take into consideration that sometimes sports is about participation. The younger the students the more sports is to be considered for participation and learning skills and that is why you may not have girls only. 5/ Image
As students get older and sports become more competitive then it might be possible to have girls only. (Though by then many of the girls may have already self excluded.) At the high school and college level it may be possible to have girls only sports in competitions if it helps a school meet an important educational objective. (This will be a key phrase. It implies the burden is on the school to prove it. If you can’t meet this objective no girls only sports.) 6/Image
It also depends on the type of sport whether it can be female only. 7/ Image
The proposed regulation focuses on minimizing the harms to the male students they would experience if excluded.

(The harms to the girls by all these proposals? Eh. Whatever. ) 8/ Image
In December 2023, a UN expert said this would harm women and by girls by taking away scholarship opportunities and deny them the right to compete fairly.

The change would also lead to the removal of intimate spaces such as separate shower facilities and locker rooms. 9/ Image
10/ Feb 2, 2024 the dept of ed sent over their final revisions to Title IX. The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs is reviewing the proposed rules and meeting with interested parties through at least April 4.
Final regs are expected this spring or summer. Image

When I post photos like these people say, “why don’t the women just refuse to compete?” It’s not that easy. Often their entire scholarship is tied to their athletics. They can be threatened with expulsion. They can lose out on med school or law school. 1/ Image
They can lose a job that is promised but dependent upon graduation.

People don’t realize just how much power is being wielded against these women. It’s enormous. So much so that college women got naked in front of man due to the threats. 2/
Can you fight the entire school, the DEI requirements in businesses, the President of the United States? He signed an executive order on day one that effectively ends women sports by being inclusive of men. If men are included it isn’t women’s sports any more. 3/ Image

Let me explain something, Scotland. While you put the thumb on the scale, you have given a group of men carte blanche to do anything they want to women. We cannot respond. They can violate our privacy, threaten us, demean us, and you say we must sit there mute. 1/
They can threaten to kill us. We cannot respond. If we do it is hate. Them threatening to kill is…fine and dandy? But we must stay silent. 2/

All of this you will excuse. But the second we say these are men threatening us like this, because it MATTERS, you will threaten to put US in jail just for noting who it is who is doing these things.

It matters because there is a way men, specifically, threaten women. 3/

1. Some people don’t know how bad things are now. Let me tell you the story about the Wi Spa. It’s a spa where people are unclothed in certain areas. A man walked into the ladies area with parts swinging. They ran to tell the front desk. Video pt 1.
2. There were women and children in the area. Children. Watch this bystander “explain” to her why this ok.
3. No comment.

1/ Some people don’t know how bad things have become. This is a rape shelter in Vancouver. First they got sued because they only have women volunteers on their phones. Some guy really wanted to hear all the rape stories and they said no. Image
2/ Then the rape shelter was vandalized. Talk about punching down! The ultimate abuse was they had funding stripped from them. Why? Because they dared be a shelter for women. And that’s not allowed any more. Not even for rape victims. Image
3/ When they say who can any of this hurt? It can hurt those women. It can hurt those women a lot. The women who are traumatized and frightened and battered.

This shelter fought back and now depends on private donations. Other shelters have given in.

Since we are speaking about language, rather than telling people that the word woman means adult human female, ask them WHY they don’t have a word that does mean that? 1/
2/ Women are half the humans on the planet and suddenly they don’t have a word for them. If you don’t have a word you can’t speak about something. Try it. It’s very hard.
3/ I’ve been in this space for a long time now and I promise you, it is nearly impossible to speak about women without a word that means women. That’s why you see all these awful new words being tried.

Notice they know who the men are. Image

A thread on the importance of language:

We started with transwoman. You were threatened if you did not use the new term. We were all “nice”. We agreed. What’s in a word? Sure. If that makes you feel happy. Ok. We were kind. 1/
2/ Then something happened. We we were saying transwoman - a noun to denote a person living a particular lifestyle. All was good. Then it switched. And the switch was dramatic, fast, and full of vicious threats. You could see it in real time on Twitter.
3/ Suddenly the space was demanded. Trans woman. Not transwoman any more.

It’s just a space. Who could complain? Whatever.
