The statement was drafted by a group of public & occupational health experts and lays out elements that HICPAC should adopt when updating the draft in order to protect health care workers and patients

Once you endorse, please send to your organizations and networks!

Endorsements from the US and internationally are both welcome

CDC guidance has global implications for health care workers and patients

Together we speak with a louder voice!
As a result of previous advocacy, in January 2024, the CDC published an announcement sending back HICPAC’s draft for further work on specific questions addressing some of our core issues

The new joint consensus statement addresses these questions

Dear Dr Tam,

Chief Public Health Officer of Canada,

You were one of 4 Canadians at WHO in 2003 who developed a consensus document wrt SARS

Back when 🇨🇦 believed SARS was airborne & N95s were needed (aka "Lessons learnt")

Image

So what happened when SARS2 came along?
You were front & centre in 2020:

1. "Risk is low"

2. "You shouldn't wear a mask"

3. "You don't need a mask"

4. "You can wear a cloth mask, but not a medical mask, those are for healthcare staff"

5. "You should wear a cloth mask with a filter insert"

A government can choose to support domestic manufacturers

Or choose to support importers of foreign products to compete against their own domestic manufacturers
Early in the pandemic,

Canada chose foreign manufacturers

While telling the public they chose domestic manufacturers

😠
According to a spokesperson, domestic manufacturing remains an ISED priority.

“The federal government will continue to enhance national capacity to manufacture medical countermeasures … needed for national health security,” he wrote.""

So a news story broke tonite that is close to me

CAPPEM, Canadian SME PPE manufacturers who answered the govt call to action to "develop a sustainable domestic PPE industry for the long-term" sues the federal government for "negligent misrepresentation"
Despite successfully answering the challenge to develop world leading medical mask & respirator products the promised "direct supports" and "flexible procurement" never came

😢
High quality

Secure domestic supply chain

Innovations like:

Nanofiber

Easy-breathing

Plant-based

'Lifestyle' Reusables

The orders never came

I'm in Emerg today

My PICC line is blocked

Could be the tip has gotten embedded

Could be the sticky antibiotic, Meropenem, has occluded the line

Either way, the Community Care nursing staff are not equipped to deal with it

Emerg is the only option
😢
Community Care could put in an IV so I can continue antibiotics until the PICC issue is sorted

But that requires a Doctor's order

And so far, my family doc has not authorized it

36 hours without antibiotics & counting

Emerg is the only option
😢
My local hospital has PICC in-patient service but does not offer PICC flushes or new PICC placements on an outpatient basis

Emerg is the only option
😢
