Liberal postcolonialists have a hard time squaring their nominal commitments to material wellbeing and democratic governance/rule of law with their support for nationalist movements that undermine both of these values in practice. Mostly, they just ignore the contradiction
The truth is that European colonial governance provided almost all the goods that liberals supposedly care about better than the natives ever have, and the basis for opposing it always amounts in fact to narcissistic racial grievance and ego injury
Indians value independence not because India is now governed well, but because they feel the humiliation of being ruled by White people was worse
