Mexico just ended the diplomatic relations with Ecuador after Ecuador stormed into the Mexican Embassy to arrest former VP Jorge Glas who was seeking asylum there.
This story is interesting and there is a deep rabbit hole.
In 2017, Ecuadorian VP Jorge Glas was sentenced of corruption for alleged bribes involving Brazilian corporation Odebrecht ( Remember their name! it becomes important)
Not long before, Odebrecht again was implicated in the fake corruption scandal involving Lula which was just a judicial coup.
As @BRASILWIRE explains, the Odebrecht scandal seems to selectively target only people who are hostile to US interests in Latin America.
In 2016, Odebrecht was fined by the DOJ for an alleged bribery scheme. In exchange for leniency, they had to cooperate with all DOJ related investigations justice.gov/opa/pr/odebrec…
Once again as @BRASILWIRE explains, under the FCA, US has made an deal with many countries. Anytime, dollars are used in a transaction, the DOJ can support an investigation .
Now, the following leftist politicians we were brought down with the only evidence against them was documents from Odebrecht saying they accepted bribes
Olanta Humala
Look at what we have year...after a 7 year witch-hunt, the Supreme Court found the evidence that Odebrecht gave prosecutors was totally made up.
Jorge Glas has been continuously targeted in a witch-hunt by Ecuador's right-wing regime. In December 2023, he asked for political asylum in Mexico.
Mexico gave him asylum earlier this week.
The climate of repression is harsh. Remember, the only evidence against Jorge Glas is a spreadsheet from Odebrecht.

Excellent question: How did Anat, who had no journalism experience, and her 24 yr old co-author Adam Sella (nephew by marriage) come to lead a front page investigation?
I will try to answer.
Her first article in New York Times is on Nov 14, 2023.
The First section lists group mods and their "contract numbers" ie.. meaning they were not employees but contractors (unverified by me) paid to do a certain task: deliver a good, make x etc
Therefore, this claim about them being staff is untrue.
I will of course check to the best of my ability if these people a) were contractors b) their duties..... but that requires more time
🔻Soldiers are always a legitimate target in a battlefield.
🔻Check out this very illuminating diplomatic cable. I feel all of it needs to be read and I cannot summarize it in a tweet. wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/8…
.@Kanthan2030 displays a pretty common phenomenon I've seen among most people.
People can understand the systems of oppression in their own country, but cannot understand the systems of oppression in other societies, therefore, they cannot interpret data properly.
When Ben Shapiro or another reactionary complains about "reverse racism." Anyone who isn't a foaming at the mouth reactionary knows to ignore him cause there is no such thing.
In Kanthan's society (Bangalore, which I know very well since it is my home town)
Similarly, when a Brahmin complains about how he is disadvantaged by the reservation system....the best thing to do is an eyeroll, because it is a reactionary who is upset at loss of privileges.
